I am in disagreement with MOST on this board in this topic who are into Pragmatism and think evangelism is all about "results." No evangelism is about obedience to the Lord and trusting him to bring forth the converts. John 6:44 (NIV) 44 “No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws them, and I will raise them up at the last day."

John 6:37 (NIV) All that the father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never drive away.

John 6:65 (NIV) He went on to say, "This is why I told you that no one can come to me unless the father has enabled him."

There are other passages in the gospel that speak of this divine election being all of God, making the reader understand that election is all of God and not of men. God has to win the converts and he has to bring people to salvation. On page 17 of the book "Share Jesus without Fear" the author says that successful evangelism is about sharing your faith, living for the gospel, and has nothing to do with bringing anyone to the Lord.

Mat 28:18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
Mat 28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
Mat 28:20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

    The command of God is:
    1. To go
    2. baptize
    3. teach them (the "them" is those who come to Jesus)

Failure to do this is not ignoring pragmatism, it is disobedience in other words sin.

What you CONTINUE to fail to understand is that you cant force people to believe the gospel.

Results are not of us they are all of God. What you ignore is the Bible that speaks of divine election.

I don't ignore it, your personal defintion of election is not what is in scripture. I hold to biblical election but that is neither here nor there. Election is not tied to the command to disciple those we lead to the Lord. We do not win everyone but we will win some and then we have a responsibility to those some. Never seeing any fruit (i.e. souls saved) presents a problem. Never having anyone to disciple is another problem.

Actually, your definition requires a preconceived definition of "election."

Why isn't this thread in the Cal/Arm thread where it could be properly ignored? That's the topic, after all. Election.

This has to be the funniest post I've seen all day.

You ignore nothing??? :Laugh Really? You are all for discipleship? :Roflmao Yea...right. As long as it doesn't mean obedience, conforming to the image of Christ, sanctification, walking in the light, loving your wife as Christ loves the church, setting aside your liberty for the consciousness of others, faithful stewardship, praying for those in authority, walking blamelessly in the sight of men, placing others above yourself,.....

No, @Sapper Woody , this belongs in the humor section - not the Cal/Arm forum.

Nobody said you could. But the bible makes it clear that when you are preaching the gospel while Spirit filled you will have fruit, much fruit, and fruit that remains.

You have no fruit. Therefore you "preaching" is not Spirit filled.

God uses Spirit filled preachers to bring forth fruit, much fruit, and fruit that remains.

No fruit = not Spirit filled.

No fruit = Full of self.

You and me are just not going to see eye to eye on this issue. But it does not matter. My church preaches what I say here. Its not about the results its about the obedience that matters. Bringing people to faith is not my job which is simply to plant seeds. I have NO IDEA NO IDEA of the fruit of my efforts and I will add neither do you.

    But never disciple anyone.

    The last paragraph hits home:
Imagine how hurt some were when one day a person suggested that those who don't catch fish were really not fishermen, no matter how much they claimed to be. Yet it did sound correct. Is a person a fisherman if year after year he never catches a fish? Is one following if he isn't fishing?

    STORY

Now it came to pass that a group existed who called themselves fishermen. And lo, there were many fish in the waters all around. In fact the whole area was surrounded by streams and lakes filled with fish. And the fish were hungry.

Week after week, month after month, and year after year these, who called themselves fishermen, met in meetings and talked about their call to fish, the abundance of fish, and how they might go about fishing. Year after year they carefully defined what fishing means, defended fishing as an occupation, and declared that fishing is always to be a primary task of fishermen.

Continually they searched for new and better methods of fishing and for new and better definitions of fishing. Further, they said, "The fishing industry exists by fishing as fire exists by burning." They loved slogans such as "Fishing is the task of every fisherman," "Every fisherman is a fisher," and "A fisherman's outpost for every fisherman's club." They sponsored special meetings called "Fishermen's Campaigns" and "The Month for Fishermen to Fish." They sponsored costly nationwide and world wide congresses to discuss fishing and to promote fishing and hear about all the ways of fishing such as the new fishing equipment, fish calls, and whether any new bait was discovered.

These fishermen built large, beautiful buildings called "Fishing Headquarters." The plea was that everyone should be a fisherman and every fisher man should fish. One thing they didn't do, however; they didn't fish.

In addition to meeting regularly, they organized a board to send out fishermen to other places where there were many fish. All the fishermen seemed to agree that what is needed is a board that could challenge fishermen to be faithful in fishing. The board was formed by those who had the great vision and courage to speak about fishing, to define fishing, and to promote the idea of fishing in faraway streams and lakes where many other fish of different colors lived.

Also the board hired staffs and appointed committees and held many meetings to define fishing, to defend fishing, and to decide what new streams should be thought about. But the staff and committee members did not fish.

Large, elaborate, and expensive training centers were built whose original and primary purpose was to teach fishermen how to fish. Over the years courses were offered on the needs of fish, the nature of fish, where to find fish, the psychological reactions of fish, and how to approach and feed fish. Those who taught had doctorates in fishology. But the teachers did not fish. They only taught fishing. Year after year, after tedious training, many were graduated and were given fishing licenses. They were sent to do full-time fishing, some to distant waters that were filled with fish.

Some spent much study and travel to learn the history of fishing and to see faraway places where the founding fathers did great fishing in the centuries past. They lauded the faithful fishermen of years before who handed down the idea of fishing.

Further, the fishermen built large printing houses to publish fishing guides. Presses were kept busy day and night to produce materials solely devoted to fishing methods, equipment, and pro grams to arrange and to encourage meetings to talk about fishing. A speakers' bureau was also provided to schedule special speakers on the subject of fishing.

Many who felt the call to be fishermen responded. They were commissioned and sent to fish. But like the fishermen back home, they never fished. Like the fishermen back home, they engaged in all kinds of other occupations. They built power plants to pump water for fish and tractors to plow new waterways. They made all kinds of equipment to travel here and there to look at fish hatcheries. Some also said that they wanted to be part of the fishing party, but they felt called to furnish fishing equipment. Others felt that their job was to relate to the fish in a good way so the fish would know the difference between good and bad fishermen. Others felt that simply letting the fish know they were nice, land-loving neighbors and how loving and kind they were was enough.

After one stirring meeting on "The Necessity for Fishing," one young fellow left the meeting and went fishing. The next day he reported that he had caught two outstanding fish. He was honored for his excellent catch and was scheduled to visit all the big meetings possible to tell how he did it. So he quit his fishing in order to have time to tell about the experience to the other fisher men. He was also placed on the Fisher men's General Board as a person having considerable experience.

Now it's true that many of the fisher men sacrificed and put up with all kinds of difficulties. Some lived near the water and bore the smell of dead fish every day. They received the ridicule of some who made fun of their fishermen's clubs and the fact that they claimed to be fishermen yet never fished. They wondered about those who felt it was of little use to attend the weekly meetings to talk about fishing. After all, were they not following the Master, who said, "Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men"?

Imagine how hurt some were when one day a person suggested that those who don't catch fish were really not fishermen, no matter how much they claimed to be. Yet it did sound correct. Is a person a fisherman if year after year he never catches a fish? Is one following if he isn't fishing?

Heaven is the only place where I will know the fruit as you call it of my efforts. I am simply a seed planter.

Who is it you don't see eye to eye with?

Mark 4:7 And some fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up, and choked it, and it yielded no fruit.

John15:5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.

John 15:16 Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.

Really? So you can see a soul come to Christ, bring him/her to your church to be baptized, then spend a year discipling that person, and not know who they are?

So all those you have won and discipled are invisible disciples? And they will suddenly become visible in Heaven.

I have heard of the invisible church before, but this is new to me. Can you give me chapter and verse on that?
