It really bothers me when someone tells me how to dress based not on a Biblical standard but on tradition. I dress nice for church because I want to and not because I have too in order to meet a certain Johndeere standard. I am just glad folks are at church worshiping and serving whether they are in a suit and tie or shorts and flip flops.
You totally miss the point, as in other threads.
Frankly, if you are dressing in a suit and tie you look like a laughing stock from the 1950s.
Who is someone more likely to listen to, a person in slacks and a dress shirt, or your idea of dressing up like Dick Tracy.
A dress shirt and pants looks just as sharp, no sharper, than your Halloween costume.
Some feel that the church is going to hell in a hand basket because men don't wear suit and ties anymore, the women wear pants, the praise band is singing "Amazing Grace" to the "House of the Rising Sun," the majority of folks with a KJV are over 60, and, God forbid, the pastor sits on stool behind a lectern rather than standing behind a huge pulpit that swallows him up. It just messes with their man made idea of the way church should be. No wonder they get upset when other Christians don't conform. It really does bother them.
Yeah...and? What do I care if you and your fellow worldlings laugh at us?
Actually, there are a great many preachers who dress for church and are very well received. Al Mohler, Russell Moore, John MacArthur, Mike Abendroth, Phil Johnson, Don Green, R.C. Sproul, R.W. Glenn, Jeff Lyle, Adrian Rogers, James White, Kevin Swanson, and many others have managed to do pretty well, in spite of knowing how to dress appropriately.
How has their knowing how to dress appropriately hurt their ministries.
I understand. The Bible says the world will hate us, so your reactions really aren't a surprise.
Again, and I realize I'm using big words here, we're not talking about people who want to dress appropriately, but can't. We're talking about people who can but won't.
We're also not talking about people who have not yet been discipled and don't know any better.
I have never seen such pitiful moaning about "persecution" and being "hated" by others as I have seen here on the BB.
You need to move to a foreign country and live as a missionary for a few years. That will teach you much about priorities and what REALLY matters when it comes to preferences like how to dress, witness, what Bible version to use, what music to use, etc.
