Small groups started in Acts 2...unless you believe thousands went from home to home.

We have "environments" for those under adulthood.

Waumba Land for very young children
    Upstreet for Elementary
    Transit for Middle School
    Extreme for High School

These environments include Bible Study (Sunday School) and corporate worship.

WD, I would gladly be in a small (Life) group with Rick Warren or Andy Stanley. :)

So you do not think the parents have the responsibility to teach the kids?

Huh? He never said that. Where are we told only parents are allowed to teach our children?

Our CHURCH is a "small group". All families home school, so 99% of typical SS material is not needed. We provide topics/study items for the families to use each week.

When our church grows too large (more than 50) we intentionally split. This maintains the small-group identity of the congregation.

We do have the ultimate responsibility from the Lord,as He has chosen to entrust us with the children of his blessing to us, but still see no problem with ahving gifted/godly tewachers instructing kids and youths to supplememnt our teaching...

Would tend to see it like as adults, the pastors/teachers are gifted to expalin and instruct us in the bible, but should be a supplement to our own daily studies!

Isnt that the Job of the Head Pastor to teach & preach.....then the parents job to emphasize & reinforce with the children? That way you can monitor exactly how the kids are being fed, work with them personally & develop a much deeper & rich relationship with the entire family.....otherwise your having a 3rd party do it (what I believe to be the very important job of the parents).

That’s interesting. I was speaking to my wife a day or so ago about this topic. We belong to a church which relocated to a larger facility and continued to grow. In many ways the size is now an obstacle – not only in regards to fellowship but also it has become a financial burden. Fifty years ago the church was in the same situation, but simply started a “sister church” across town (which is going strong). I can see a real advantage to your church strategy.

Parents ought to teach their children. But we have lots of kids whose parents don't come to church because of all matter of reasons. We have children's SS classes and church.

We have found in previous churches that some well-meaning SS teachers take the kids and actually teach wrong doctrine, undermine parents, have kids with peers (never leading to good) and truly came to dislike the whole graded-classroom mentality.

We are a family-integrated church. 8 months to 80+ years sitting and studying, singing and praying together. Joy to know that what they are taught comes from trained and called elders. Parents commit (dads) to teaching and modeling Bible for the family.

We cover all of central Wyoming, so as soon as 3-4 stable families are committed to an area, we can intentionally split. Our biggest problem is the horrific transient nature of work in the area. We have 3-4 professionals who are "here". The other will come for a year or two and then be shifted by oil/coal/energy to other areas or states. Very hard to establish a church plant 25 miles away, then have 2 or the 3 families move within 6 months. And the plant dies.
