This thread is not aimed at bashing anyone but I was wondering what you thought of T.D. Jakes. I know he's Pentecostal/Charismatic and I don't always agree with him, his lifestyle or teaching but I have heard him preach some stuff that has really got me thinking. What's your opinion about him?:BangHead:
Phl 1:15-18
Some indeed preach Christ even of envy and strife; and some also of good will:
16
The one preach Christ of contention, not sincerely, supposing to add affliction to my bonds:
17
But the other of love, knowing that I am set for the defence of the gospel.
18
What then? notwithstanding, every way, whether in pretence, or in truth, Christ is preached; and I therein do rejoice, yea, and will rejoice.
Just use good discernment when you watch him. Sometimes he is very solid, preaching what is good and profitable, but then...wooosh...he will shift to preaching error.
If you are good with the "eat the chicken, throw away the bones" way of listening, fine.
Definately a Modalist and if he would have spent as much money on proper Theological training as he did for his suits he would have benefitted greatly. I didn't know Lifeway supported him? SAD
It truly grieves me when Christians flock to guys like him and Osteen, it proves our pulpits are weak today.
Yes, or really more broadly, the publishing arm of the SBC.
Used to be called Broadman Press or something like that.
I actually contacted them about it one time when I was expressing displeasure at their decision not to sell the TNIV.
My point, basically, was that I thought it was in bad taste for them to sell books by a known heretic but to take a rather arrogant stand against a reliable translation.
One of their people wrote me back a courteous email that assured me they had done their research on Jakes.
I don't give them my business anymore, anyway, so not really a big loss.
Where is that in the Bible? Does the Bible tell us to accept some of what a false teacher might say because, like the proverbial blind squirrel who stumbles across an acorn, he may accidentally swerve into a true statement once in a while? Or does it tell us to have nothing to do with them?
I noticed the other day when I was there---they carried the DVD movie starring Sandra Bullock----for the life of me I can't remember the name of that movie---about some football player for Ole Miss that went Pro NFL
Anyhows----I noticed a few months ago where Sandra Bullock was guest host for some Hollywood awards show----and the camera panned in close as she and some other Hollywood actress locked lips with a passon there on the stage to the cheers of the crowd---I can't stand that---the appearance of types and figures of the homose---ual crowd!! Be it man/man kissing or woman/woman!
If you personally are not confident in your ability to discern truth from error when listening to someone like Jakes then I would definetly advise you to steer clear of him. Immedietly turn the TV off, or leave the room, if he comes on.
But I dont have that problem. I've seen Jakes give wonderful, very edifying messages, where there was absolutely nothing that any Baptist or any other evangelical listener would have a problem with. I was blessed.
Other times he would go in another direction, and I would change the channel.
For you though, it might be best for you to not do that.
