We don't even really know who these corporations are...

So, if you've ever wondered why everything around you seems so incredibly insane, the answer is because an insane individual is running it all -- an individual known as a corporation

Corporations are owned by individuals. Individuals whose names are public knowledge.

That's true enough but is that alone enough to throw the rest of the information in this article in doubt?

That is what you're driving at isn't it?

This tactic is old and way overused imho. The idea here folks is to pick out the weakest part of your opponent's argument in this case a statement most people would figure is "off the cuff" and try to persuade the reader to ignore everything the author says. It's another form of "poisoning the well" or "throwing garbage in the groceries".

And it's way over used today.

Yeah, I studied propagandist techniques a wee bit too.

Corporations are running the world today. Corporate influence is running our governments. Our government is run by corporate interests, and it is these corporate interests that make all the decisions about environmental law, war and all kinds of legal reforms that benefit the business community,

How does the decision of the European Union to tell private corporate shareholders in Greek bonds to take a 50% loss square with your contention that corporations run governments?

like making it more difficult for consumers to file bankruptcy or making it illegal for consumers to sue food companies for health concerns related to long-term consumption of their products.

Two days ago you said that Monsanto was going to sue the state of Vermont if they passed a food labeling law. Now you are saying the government is making it illegal for consumers to sue food companies. Cite a source please.

>>By law, corporations must put the profits of shareholders first...

>Nothing but fantasy.

Why should anyone buy shares in a corporation which does not maximize profits? As an act of (non-deductible) charity?

Are there many pension funds investing in non-profits?

>There was actually very little "Big Business" in America till the railroads came along.

Not until Congress granted the railroads every other section of the western lands stolen from the Indian People along the new railroad routes.

Who controls the EU? Hint, it's the banks.

“When a government is dependent upon bankers for money, they and not the leaders of the government control the situation, since the hand that gives is above the hand that takes. Money has no motherland; financiers are without patriotism and without decency; their sole object is gain.” ― Napoleon Bonaparte

Sure here's one. No it's not a trusted "corporate" news source. The corporate news doesn't like to air this kind of information. Maybe on page 19 in the paper or the ticker thing at the bottom of the tv screen. But broadcast it as a real story? No.

Now you are saying the government is making it illegal for consumers to sue food companies. Cite a source please.

Was I saying that? I didn't think I was saying that.

How many Monsanto board members can you name without searching the web? How about GE or Lockheed or Goldman Sachs? Who owns the Federal Reserve? For that matter who controls NBC? Quick answer General Electric (a military contractor) controls a little over half. You think NBC is going to give GE unfavorable coverage?

The rich ruleth over the poor, and the borrower [is] servant to the lender. Proverbs 22:7

Isn't our government in the borrowing business?

It's all fiat money, anyway, poncho. We have no proof there is actually any gold in Fort Knox, just sayin'.

A point: If you have a 401(k) or a pension fund, you own a piece, albeit a small one perhaps, of the big pie.

Wait a second...so in your twisted little world, we have to memorize the names of the board members or it doesn't count as public knowledge? That's too funny...

Do you remember our discussion on the VOC (Dutch East India Company)? What was it's, to use a Star Trek term "prime directive"? It was to monopolize the spice trade by any means.

Ok but your question was "How was it done for the first hundred years of the republic?" and now you cite royal charters and European quasi-government corporations. How is that relevant to our early republic?
