Funny, I am familiar with the field and I've never heard of any specialist say that; in fact, I am familiar with many of the leaders in the field, including evangelical Christians, who are all about being loving, firm and consistent parents.

But I think any of them would call this abuse.

More than 'under fire' for it. He needs to be locked up for a period of time in the same way he would lock up anyone for assaulting someone. This goes so outside the bounds of appropriate discipline. Interesting enough, found this online today. This is just the results of research on 'spanking' not beating as the 'good' judge found necessary:

Ok then I misunderstood your points and I am guessing we agree more than disagree.

Let's hear it. What leading psychologists say you shouldn't say "no" to your children?

I saw no evidence of love in that video from the father. Hatred, uncontrolled anger, a man not in command of himself, all of those, yes. But love, no.

That alone doesn't make it right either.

Are you saying that the child who fails, it's never a result of the parent?

Hatred is a real stretch. But definitely anger was in evidence.

Let him/her who has never punished his/her child wrongly cast the first stone.

Maybe you didn't beat them with a belt in anger. But you gave them the 'silent treatment'. Told them they were worthless and would never amount to anything. Used them as pawns in your broken marriage.

Or maybe you wished for an entire family to fail.

I know which side has the hatred. To wish for a wife to leave a man you have a disagreement with is the sickest thing I have ever read on this board. I cannot believe it wasn't edited. Or retracted.
