We had a lot going on today at the all-day Pajama Christmas Party. It rained alot and going outside was not even an option.
The students were excited all day long at everything we did.
- We watched the movie, The Grinch and ate popcorn.
- We watched the movie, Frozen and ate cookies.
- The students ate lunch and had a snacking party.
- We had an art activity.
- One teacher read excerpts from "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever".
- We sang to the top of our lungs!
- I opened Christmas presents in front of the students.
- Students exchanged gifts.
- We packed treat bags.
- We took our canned goods for our canned good drive to the office for counting.
- ....and I read from Matthew and Luke.
But their response to the scripture readings were different than their responses to every thing else.
You have to understand that I am in a public school and not all the children attend church nor know the Christmas story.
I didn't really commentate. I just said "Here's Mary's story from Luke ... Joseph's story from Matthew ...." ....etc.
I merely told who the characters were that I was about to read about and told which book of the New Testament their story was from.
And I just read.
And they - all 80 of the 4th graders - were still and silent for the ONLY time during the day.
When I finished and told them that I was finished, they reacted in a way that they didn't react to anything else during the day. They clapped. Appreciatively, loudly and for a long time.
They weren't clapping for my oratory skills. They clapped for the Word and the story.
I love it when that happens.
I love it when God's Word grabs hold of people and moves them. Especially children. As many times as I have seen that both in public, Christian, and Sunday School (and Vacation Bible School), I'm always amazed.
God's Word will not return to Him void.
And it's power cannot be measured nor contained.
The Absolute Power of God's Word....
