    Bunyon,
I don't even think I can regard Pat as one of God's own preachers anymore, maybe at one time I did but too many unsavory events have surfaced about Pat Robertson and I am convinced that he has set out to make himself richer by duping hard working Christians to support his own personal businesses.
An excerpt from a column by Max Blumenthal
    http://www.thenation.com/doc/20050919/blumenthal
In 1994 he made an emotional plea on The 700 Club for cash donations to Operation Blessing to support airlifts of refugees from the Rwandan civil war to Zaire (now Congo). Reporter Bill Sizemore of The Virginian Pilot later discovered that Operation Blessing's planes were transporting diamond-mining equipment for the African Development Corporation, a Robertson-owned venture initiated with the cooperation of Zaire's then-dictator Mobutu Sese Seko.

That would be bad. Would not look good for him, yet he has accomplished alot for Christ, and alot of people have become Christian because of him. I am not convinced he is not real.

I read the article Rocko9. It seems very partison to me and listed all the things Robertson has Been "accused of". It seems very left wing and also seems to pit non religious charity groups against faith based ones. I remain unconvinced.

Well Bunyon, there are other sites to go to that will pretty much say the same thing.

An artical dated september 22, 2001 by Columnist Colbert I. King from the Washington Post adds another perspective to Pat Robertson character.
I wont try to convince you of anything you don't want to beleive but their are sources out there give an insight to Pat Robertsons character.

I am always willing to look at the evidence. I am not a Robertson fan, but I have always considered him a genuine chrisitian. I'll read any articles you post.

I am very find of Brother Pat.
He is not perfect but he is a great Christian.
Many people are saved because of him proclaiming Jesus on TV.
He also started a great university with a great law school and a School of Government.
He has also started an under graduate program by internet that offers opportunities all over the world to people that would otherwise not have the opportunity to have a college education.
Thi will be the largest university in the world when the job is finished.

Unfortunately, he shows no sign of taking your advice. I consider it a scandal that he still appears on the Southern Baptist Convention's TV network. Can't they get someone with more credibility — like Robert Tilton?

Meanwhile Pat cleans up on the business end of life.
    Pat the Media Mogul

The Pat Robertson success story starts with the Family Channel. He started it in 1977, using money donated to his Christian Broadcasting Network, in order to increase viewership potential of the 700 Club, and filled the rest of the time with cheesy old TV shows. The popularity of the channel soon grew, and it began to turn large profits by 1989, meaning that it could no longer legally be a part of the non-profit CBN. So what does Robertson decide to do? He partners up with TCI, and arranges for CBN to sell the Family Channel to himself and his son (Tim Robertson) for next to nothing. He then took the company public in 1992, with the stock sales making him a wealthy man, to the tune of 90 million dollars. In other words, he took money that people had donated to CBN for the purpose of spreading Christianity, and used it to build himself a media empire. Recently, Pat sold off the Family Channel to Mr.-Anti-Family-Values himself, Rupert Murdoch, the man behind "Melrose Place" and "Married...With Children." Of course, this sale increased his fortune even more. Is all of this legal? Barely. Ethical? Hardly. Something you would expect from a true man of God? Most definitely not. Pat could have sold the Family Channel to someone else, and returned the profits to CBN, seeing as it was CBN donor money that started it in the first place, but he chose the road to massive personal gain.

Liberals have Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, and Howard Dean. We conservatives have Pat.

Yep. FamilyNet is operated by the North American Mission Board. And Pat is on five times a week:

Does Cooperative Program money go to fund his heresy? I think a change might be in order, if so.

</font>[/QUOTE]That should not surprise us because Paige Patterson recently hired a graduate of Robertson's university to teach at SWBTS.

Is the President of SWBTS now in charge of the NAMB? Isn't that Draper's job? I am curious to know if you actually had a point there or if you just saw an opportunity to take a swipe at Patterson and reveal your lingering bitterness about the way the Conservative takeover was handled in some instances? Don't get me wrong. I don't like the way some things were handled, but the more I meet the "moderates" (AKA Liberals) who lost their power, the more I am happy it happened. Most of us have moved on and got over it. Perhaps, you should consider it.

I am unable to provide definitive numbers because the NAMB site is unavailable.

However, the NAMB is still subsidizing FamilyNet in the hope that it will become self supporting. I will provide information as I find it.

I believe there is more of an interconnection than many would like to believe.

I left for other reasons. It has nothing to do with the take over. It has everything to do with hypocrisy. I have a real problem when I see pictures posted on the walls of a SBC university honoring those who gave large gifts. I have a real problem when it is posted how many Baptisms occured in churches across the SBC and how much money they gave. I have a problem honoring those churches which gave lots of money to the cooperative program and it is posted so all can see. I have a real problem when I can read the horoscope in Houston Baptist University's newspaper. Show me how that honors God.

  18. I had some serious issues with the 700 club about 18 months ago. I was getting very discouraged when I would see Benny Hinn on the show, discussing all his great crusades. You don't have to look far to see how BH prepares for his healing crusades. Necromancy, would be a summary of some heresy, though I won't judge. It is a solid distinction though. He takes his suit jacket, and swipes it over Kathryn Kuhlmans(sp)grave stone. He is on record stating that this is how he gets his annointing power. I sent emails, letters, and phone calls. Only when we withdrew our substantial tithing, did they decide to contact me. This took over 4 months. They did'nt even want to hear about my reservations. They were just concerned about when they could count on some more money. My summary: God will show us the truth! Sometimes it comes in an awkward place and time. In any case, God did show us that the 700 club will air controversial topics. That is fine, until they become unscriptural! Prayer is so powerful, just have faith, and be patient!

Thanks everybody for the heads up on the SBC funding the 700 Club.

I e-mailed them and I'll let you all know what I hear.
