    Donna: I clicked on the web site and it sounds good. I did a search and there is a group that started there 13-week course January 2nd, in a Baptist Church, about 20 miles from me.

    I am going to check it out, but may have to wait for the next course, since a month of this one is gone already. I think it would be better to start at the beginning.

    Sue, ask if they will take yoiur name and let you knwo when they start a new course. They probaly will not take someone after they have started, becasue then you've missed important information. Beleive me this bible study is wonderful, and the encourage is too. As a matter of fact you have to commit to encourage others from the group.

    Does anyone know if there is a website on Atkins that tells what research was used 32 years ago that the Atkins diet is based on, why Dr. Atkins ignored medical research on a balanced diet.
    Something else I'd like to know is if people beleive the Atkins diet to be whats really good for their bodies rather then a balanced diet, would they feed their kids like that? Would they not feed their kids milk, grains, most vegetables? If it isn't healthy for them how can it be healthy for anyone?
    When it comes to the basic foods,(milk ,vegetables in this case) and not overly processed foods (like white table sugar), I'm still not willing to call what God called good a bad thing. How can vegetables be bad for you(as a general rule and not an allergy or something like that)? It all has to do with moderation and balance. Everything in our life has to be balanced, Jesus is Lord even over my food and what and how much I eat. Even in eating Jesus has to be my priority. When we eat a balanced diet, weight loss is naturally going to follow. But we prefer the sin of wanting more, of having too much, of being out of balance in our lives, of Jesus not being Lord of our all. Thats why we need diets like Atkins(and others) that have secular people telling us God's creation of vegetables and milk are bad for us(like I said barring some food allergy). God didn't create bad foods, but we took His creation and made it bad, used it wrong, misused it.
    To me everything in life has to do with the spiritual world, with Jesus being Lord, or not.

    This week I started a healthy eating diet. I have also had a gym programme sorted out for me which at the moment is only 15 minutes worth but also 10 lengths of the pool. I start the gym programme on Wednesday next week and I am being weighed in on the 7th February 2004. I have tried many diets, classes and so on but this time I am doing it myself, but I would value your support. I will keep you posted. My aim is to lose 6 stone by February next year. I am going on a cruise with my husband and my friend and her husband. My son in law said if I do it he will buy me a cocktail dress and so did my husband.
    Will I do it!!!!!!

    Okiday, people. Although we (my wife and I) have put it off for a long time now (TOO long, truth be told), we FINALLY started back on our diet today.

    We seighed before we went to church this morning, and , boy, those scales don't pull any punches!!! I have succeeded in reduducing an 88 pound loss to a 63 pound loss in about two and a half months!!! Of course, if you could see the stuff that has been going down my throat, you would easily understand how. It seemed that once we decided to take the holidays off, everything in the world came crashing in on us.

    Praise be to God that He has given us the will to get back on the road we need to be on. Even though my wife is dreading these first couple of weeks, she is now ready to get the ball moving again (boy, is she going to miss those aple-crunch cakes...but don't tell her I said so).

    I have to admit that my biggest weakness is ice cream, followed closely by chocolate (and you ladies thought you had a corner on the market...HAH!!!). When we went and bought groceries after church today, my wife suggested we grab some CarbSmart ice cream. I flatly said no. I don't think you can have it on Induction (yes, it is back to Atkins), but I know that if it came home with us it would be gone by tomorrow night. I also turned down the sugar-free chocolates, for the same reason.

    I ask all of you to pray for us. I am already praying for all of you, that God help you on your eating/exercising plans, to give you the strength of will when you are weak, to give you the fortitude to continue on, and to bless you with a slimmer waist/hip/whatever-line and accumulated weight loss. Hey, while you are before the throne, you might as well bring it all...

    Trotter, if your on Atkins, did you know there is a low carb ice cream? Breyers makes a great low carb ice cream called carb smart, and it tastes really good, the strawberry is kind of mild for me, I haven't had the vanilla, don't like vanilla anyway, but the chocolate I love. Only 4 carbs a serving!

    Yeah, I know. And the Smart ones (or is it Smart Choice) Weight Watchers ice cream is almost as low, and the butter pecan is awesome!

    But it does me no good if I eat the whole thing!!!

    Our diet is not going so good this week (not enough grocery money to stock up right this payday :( . But we have at least moved closer than we were...no sugar in the house, and no bread in the house.

    Oh, have you seen the Carb Solutions milk for Atkins? It has like three carbs (the chocolate does, anyway). It is sort of thick, and not quite as good as Mayfield's (local brand), but it is better than Flav-o-rich. Haven't tried the whole, skim, or 2% yet. WalMart Supercenter here carries it.

    We only have one low carb milk here, can't remember the name, I know it isn't Atkins, but it tastes awful. I drink 1 cup of 1% milk each morning, since I am on a diabetic diet my dietitian has me on 150 carbs a day, which half the daily suggested.Sometimes it's hard to get in the whole 150. Still loosing weight too. I hadn't checked the Weight Watchers ice cream, had no idea it was low carb. Would be nice to have butter pecan again. I'll have to check it out next time I go to Winn Dixie. I know what you mean about it being hard to afford to eat low carb, but as a diabetic I have to do the best I can. We both eat low carb so I don't have to buy extra foods. We just don't eat pasta, very little rice(I limit half a cup of it and potatoes), some higher carb veggies I eat only a tablespoon or two, I buy low carb bread for myself, I also recently found low carb peanut butter.

    I wondered of all the people on the BB doing Atkins or some other low carb diet, if your still eating on the induction plan of only 20 carbs a day? And how long have you been on induction? i was reading some material yesterday about low carb eating that said on Atkins after the first two weeks you are suppose to eat 90 carbs a day. Is anyone actually following the Atkins diet then? My friend works with a woman who ate something like 80-100 carbs a day and has lost, last I heard, 70 pounds.

    I went to the gym yesterday and was told I had lost 2lb ..... [​IMG]
    I have been to the gym 3 times last week. Swam 20 lengths and did my programme.

    Good going Joy, 2 pounds is all anyone needs to loose in one week.
    Something I learned in my First Place class is that it is physiologically impossible to loose more then 2 pounds of actually fat per week, more then that and it's muscle mass. Except for the first week of dieting simply because you are suddenly eating less food,which is like a jump start. Thats why everyone suggests you not try to loose more then 2 pounds a week.
    Something else is if you have a lot of weight to loose, drink lots of water to help prevent skin sagging. Which I've seen pictures of, it's awful.

    I am doing Atkins. Actually the book says you can stay on Induction for longer than 2 weeks if you wish. I have been on it a little over a month and have lost 22 pounds. Still got a ways to go, but I feel better and got to wear a skirt today that I havent worn in a looong time!! Some days I do get more than 20 carbs, because I dont measure my veggies. I just stop eating when I am full.

    I've only lost one pound, I think thats 29 now.
    Long term Atkins induction can cause kidney problems because of the high protein intake.

    Back on the diet, sort of. We are working on it, but it is really, really hard. But at least we have all the sugar and bread out of the house now. So far, so good.

    I'm still doing well. Almost at my 30 pound mark!!
    I am losing an average of 2 pounds per week.

    Sue,

    I wasn't overweight but I had gained weight over the holidays. I tried weight watchers and lost 8 pounds. And I'm eating a lot more than I did before. But WW shows the best types of foods to eat. I'm eating a lot more fruits and vegetables now and leaner cuts of meat. I'm not a member of weight watchers, I just used their points system and recipes.

    So far, so good. Weighed in Sunday morning...3 pounds. Not bad, considering the way my wife and I have floundered thus far in getting back on the bandwagon.

    Just a measure of caution about low carb-no carb diets...now I'm not any kind of expert but I have spoken to a good christian friend who has taken college courses on health and fittness, he now manages his own gym and is a personal trainer. He told me it's actually not a wise idea to take up diets which cut carbs completely, our bodies need carbs naturally which is why one might experience cravings. He is actually kind of passionate about that issue. He doesn't claim that you won't loose weight but that our bodies need carbs as well, just in moderation. Just food for thought if you will.
