No matter what diet you choose it must be a life time change, and exercise must be added to increase your metabolism.

Adkins worked for me, and it does not have to be high fat. Lean protien works as well as high fat protien.

My cholestrol went down on adkins, and I lost 40 pounds.

Dieting should not be a diet, but a change of the way we eat. If we would only eat right we'd loose weight automatically. And be healthy too.

As long as you stick to it. Otherwise, you become a living yo-yo.

Atkins has worked for me, but then I started the yo-yo syndrome.

Please pray for my wife and I in our weight loss endevour. As soon as we decided to get serious, everything has gone nuts. We really need the help.

In Christ,
Trotter

I sure will Trotter and you do likewise for me. The same thing happened when I decided to get serious.

I had to take medical tests etc., and had company and just didn't get back on the diet.

Blessings,
§ue

Thanks for sharing your types of diets.

Dina and Jimmy C, congratulations on your success.

At this point, I am leaning toward the South Beach Diet. It seems to be the one that we can follow. Actually, I usually just count calories.

And Trotter, I have been a yo-yo dieter for years. Gain 20 pounds, lose 20 pounds. I would be happy losing 10 pounds now, but 20 would be better. I guess I have never really learned how to maintain my weight.

I think I cook too much food for my family. At least that is what my grandson tells me. But I want to always have enough for everyone. So maybe smaller portions is the answer for us.

Donna, you are so right. Maybe we should take the word diet out of our vocabulary,

I think you have the answer, Trotter, prayer may help end my frustration.

Sue, I know you will get back on your diet soon. You have had so much to deal with...your tests and your hand injury, etc.

Ed has been teasing me that I have more diet books and cook books than he has Bibles. I think he is exaggerating. ;)

Well I am doing the Atkins "lifestyle", and it really has become that. I dont eat high fat food, though, except an occasional piece of bacon. I know some people think its an unhealthy diet, but I am way healthier now after losing 50 pounds. I do eat lean meats (turkey, chicken, fish,) veggies (just about all except taters)and even some fruits. I even eat some whole wheat stuff here and there, too. I have been on many diets - Weight Watchers, First Place, Nutri-System - and this one has been the one that worked for me, BUT this is really the first time I truly made the decision to go all the way. I do understand the confusion, though, as well as the struggle with food and eating too much of the good stuff!!!

Tatertot, WOW, 50 pounds that is fantastic!

I have ordered the South Beach Diet Book to add to my collection, but I am very serious this time. I hope my husband and I can survive because I am usually not serious about changing lifestyle habits. I just realized something this morning. I always thought that I was a poor example because I first gave up cream in my coffee, then I gave up sugar in my coffee and my tea. I eat most sandwiches dry. This I have done for years. I thought what good did it do me? The lightbulb went off this morning. :D I might have weighed 100 pounds more if I hadn't done that. Isn't that the optimistic way to look at it.

My problem is I like bread and potatoes.

My tip for the day: Don't eat while you read.

I also like the look of the S. Beach, it is still low carb, but as I understand it S Beach looks at the glycemic content of food and allows you to add more fruits etc. I never gave up veggies esp broccoli, green beans and other dark green veggies.

Potatoes and bread have always been a weakness of mine, and they have probably the highest glycemic content of all foods - except of course sweets.

I will state again that you must increase your metabolism by exercising to have long term success in achieving and maintaining your weight loss goals.

I have never bought any diet books. I just do not eat bread, potatoes, and pasta and try to limit my carb intake and exercise.

I find low carb recipes on the Internet and make them - they are delicious so it doesn't really feel like I'm missing out on anything.

Cauliflower can be made to taste like mashed potatoes OR gravy. Pork rinds can be substituted in lieu of bread or crackers in meatloaf - also in lieu of breading for fried foods (in olive oil of course).

I make a low carb peanut butter, chocolate, and cream cheese pie that makes people NOT on a diet want the recipe!

You are correct, Jimmy.

I probably have a mental block about certain foods. I am not going to eat what I do not like.
I have an intolerance for certain foods. I may do without potatoes and bread for short periods, but not forever. I can do without sweets first.

The problem I am faced with now is I like coca cola and I do not like to drink anything with artificial sweeteners. I did without caffeine for two years and I honestly can't say that I felt any better. Then I started drinking diet soda and discovered that as long as I was drinking the diet soda, I didn't lose any weight.

Isn't it strange that what works for one person will not work for another? We would all be rich if we could find the secret, wouldn't we?

My definition of diet: Die with a T. I don't "diet", but I have begun to make much better choices than I used to when I was younger. Exercise is the most important thing to me.

Donna: It is posted in the Diet Recipe Thread. I'm not sure it would be good for diabetics because it is so rich it must be cut into 12 pieces, but check it out anyway...It is sinfully scrumptious! 3.8 carbs per serving

Thankful,

I work for Coke. We were told yesterday that we will be making a new drink in June called Classic C-2. It will be a lower calorie version of Coca-Cola Classic that has sugar and a tri-blend of artificial sweetners. It has half the calories/carbs of regular Coke.

I hae taken to drinking water, maostly. I put lemon juice in it (at work I put a shot of lemonade, 'cause it's free) because I an't stomach large quantities of plain water.

Trotter, I will try the new coke if it ever gets to Oklahoma. I hope it isn't too sweet. To me, diet drinks are just too sweet.

How are you doing today? Ed and I seem to be maintaining. That is good, but we need to start losing pounds again.

Tip for the Day: Eat slowly! Some say that it takes 20 minutes from the time that you take your first bite or sip of water to feel full.

Maintaining...sort of.

I got to try one version of C2 back in December when we ran the sample runs of it (five different formulas). The one I tried tasted like Coke, but was a little flat.

Yeah, I knew about eating slow. Not that I've been doing that a lot of late.

We received the South Beach Diet Books today and right away, Ed is having problems because it says decaffeinated coffee. So we may do a modified version.

Leave off the bread, pasta, rice, sweets for two weeks, but I don't want to shock our systems too much and we do want to be speaking to each other at the end of the two weeks.

I'm reading the book. Haven't found out why he should drink decaffeinated coffee. Does anyone know the answer before I find it in this book?

One needs to withdraw from caffeine slowly, I know that from experience.

Trotter

Caffine causes you to retain water, and it can interfere with the metabolism. It also 'hypes' you up, and those nervous jitters can cause the munchies.

I'm reading the South Beach Diet Book!

Tomorrow, we are going not going to eat bread, potatoes, rice, pasta, or any sweets. We should continue this for two weeks, but I think we will take it one day at a time until I finish reading the book and actually implement the diet.

I really think we should do this gradually. Tomorrow for supper, we will have salad, grilled salmon and asparagus.

We will be drinking more water. Ed has already switched to diet drinks.
