THE DIET THREAD

Do yall have O'Charley's restaurant chains there? They have a great low carb menu as well as Garfield's. My favorite thing now is low carb tortillas - I make nackos, quesadillas, wraps, sopapillas - all kinds of goodies that are legal!

Thankful

One week on the South Beach Diet and we are both down 7 pounds each and we are feeling better, I think.

I do have a problem of concentrating and following through on one task. I have not totally given up caffeine. Has anyone else had this problem?

That's great Betty!

I am still hanging at 5# (but I cheated Sunday).

The storms started last night and it looks like we will have them all week, so there goes my bike riding - that's not gonna help!

Keep up the good work ya'll!

Sue,

I just recently got to try cauliflower potatoes. Not bad.

There is a little resturant that has opened up here in my town called Main Street Cafe. It is a 'low-carb' eatery! Everything there is low-carb, even the desserts.

The prices aren't great, but the food was definately edible. I had the quiche, my wife had hot dogs, my daughter had the steak in gravy. All were good.

I'm afraid that it won't be in business for long (bad location), but it is an idea whose time has come.

In Christ,
Trotter

Hey Trotter!

Most of the restaurants around here have some low carb items on the menu, but we don't have a low carb restaurant per se. It would be nice though.

Cauliflower gravy is good on chicken fried steak too! Both recipes are on the diet thread. Hubby is NOT on a diet but he loves that recipe. He didn't even know he wasn't eating real gravy!

We are still having your 'Cabbage Dump' 2-3 times a month. I 'dump' all kinds of things in it!

They have a lot of low carb food in the grocery stores now, but I can't afford to buy it so I just make all my food from scratch.

Terrible when people can't afford to eat healthy!

Does anyone remember when we counted starches and sugar? It wasn't called carbs and it was easier to understand than complex carbs and the simple carbs.

I have now lost 11 pounds after 12 days on a diet. During this time, I have had no sweets, no bread, no pasta, no rice, but it is getting more difficult to do without some of these things. So probably next week I will start adding a few back into my diet.

Until today, I was feeling great, but I think I ate something that disagreed with me last night.

Actually, my waist is returning. Yeah!!!!

I have never counted anything but calories until the low carb fad started.

Counting calories doesn't work for me. Low fat doesn't work for me - so I guess I'm stuck with counting carbs!

The new diet sensation:
Oreo centers.

Yes, Oreo centers are 50% FAT FREE!
Yes, Oreo centers are 50% CARB FREE!

(you know that shortning is 100% fat and therefore Carb free.
Sugar is 100% carbs and therefore fat free.
Oreo centers are half shortning )

/ed gets his tongue out of his cheek/

At the end of the 11th day of my South Beach Diet
I'm 8 pounds down.

Sue, I'm so glad you have found something that works for you. That is really the first step to healthy eating.

I have been counting calories and watching carbs and fats, too. Basically, I think that is what the weight watchers diet does.

Remember eat to live not live to eat!

Amen to that! The biggest hurdle we have faced (other than flagging willpower) has been the outrageous cost of healthy foods.

I pointed out to my wife that everything in a grocery store that was fairly cheap was also almost pure carbs. She was amazed as we walked the aisles and checked labels of the stuff that was not very expensive.

The moral? If you are poor, be very careful about just grabbing what is affordable.

For me, Carbs keep me from being hungry and I think that is the reason that the carb stuff is less expensive.

I stay hungry all the time on this low carb diet and I don't think I have ever been hungry in my life. So if one does not have much to eat, carbs are better.

We have found some great salads at McDonald's.
I am going to add a few more carbs to my diet this week, but Ed is staying on the phase one of the diet.

He has lost enough weight that he had to buy suspenders to hold up his pants. His suit coat now fits again.

Sue, I have no idea! I have been following the phase one of the south beach diet and that is practically no carbs.

I just looked at the yogurt that I am eating and it is 33 grams but it says 11% of a 2000 calorie diet. I am doing a 1000 diet so that is 20% of my carbs for the day. Are you doing a 30% or 30 grams. If it is 30 grams, I will never make it on a low carb diet.

I am doing 30 grams.....I'm not counting calories. Pork rinds dipped in Ranch dressing have become my best friend!

I can have all the meat, salad, cauliflower and brocolli I want though so I really don't get hungry.

The recipes I make are seldom more than 3-4 grams of carbs per serving.

My problem is some days I just don't feel like preparing low carb. It DOES take longer...

193 off of 203 in 11 days.

I bought some suspenders to hold my 40"
pants up. I used to fit so tight in
them that i didn't need a
pants holder up method.
Suspenders are more comfortable than
a belt.

I know what you mean and I have to make more trips to the grocery store and that means, I spend more money.

Well, I've lost 12 pounds now. I'm sure the progress will be slower now that I am adding some carbs back.

Yesterday, I had two slices of whole grain bread that was low calorie and low carb. First bread that I have had in over two weeks. That is a first for me. I really like bread. Sandwiches are my favorite meal.

I just discovered that one can join Weight Watchers online without attending meetings. The meetings are great, but I'm not sure I have time to attend. If I need encouragement, I will. They also have message boards for support. I have already met some wonderful Christians.

I am staying around 25ish grams a day. I am in love with low carb tortillas. I make pizza, quesadillas, tortilla chips, all kinds of stuff. And I have a shake for breakfast (1gram)then I have plenty of room for meals and snacks throughout the day. I really dont snack much, but if I want to, I can. It is working great for me. I'm down 54 pounds. I really love veggies, so this is one plan I can live by.
I think Weight Watchers is a good balanced program, too. It just wasnt what worked for me. Hope you find what works for you, THANKFUL! And congrats to ED!!!!
