The disrespect of students in High School

Sorry Cutter, I didn't mean to go on a rant. But I wanted badly to say what was on my mind, and your topic was there. By the way, it's a great topic, and you have my most sincere prayers for the inward power and devotion to get out of bed each day and go to work. Your job is a calling of God, and He has you there for a reason. Blessings to you brother....

Shalom,

I appreciate your sympathy, Righteous Dude (I love that name BTW, it reminds me of the 70's  ), but the OP is the first paragraph of the article that I put a link to written by an actual teacher. IOW, I'm not a teacher, but I play one on the BB! :D

When are teens see and hear this kind of "dissing" it becomes easier for them to lay aside what they were taught by their parents and society, and react toward those in positions of authority above them.

It is a sad thing to live in America today, because people just don't treat others with respect. I am often "guilty" of this myself, and I am constantly being reminded by my peers, and myself, that it is better to say nothing if in fact I can't say something nice about that person.
No kidding. And the teens are looking up to .....you? You should take your own advice.

God has been kicked out of the public schools.
The Devil has NOT been kicked out of the public schools.
That isn't hard to figure out. :(

Please explain how anyone can kick God out of anything?

Yes, the disrespect in today's teens is amazing to me.

Well, there's nothing I can do about any other children in this world but I can absolutely raise my kids to be polite and respectful to their elders. It's honestly becoming a lost art and I know that my own children will have a head start in being able to work in the world and be well-respected because they respect others.

You should hear how many of their parents speak about those in authority over them. The apple seldom falls far from the tree.

I teach at a university and tell my students that disrespect is not welcomed. Once I had a student disrespect me and I told him that his actions were not welcomed and if he persisted that he would be asked to leave permanently. After class he apologized. It never happened again.

You teach people how to treat you.

Do you mean kind of like what happened to Daniel?
Some of the greatest movements today are among Christian students who do not rely on the community to pamper them and for the church to give them prizes but rather in communities which require strong Christians to stand tall. Some of the weakest Christians I have met in America are in areas of the country where there are the greatest number of churches.

Oh - I completely agree with you here. Parents don't respect so neither do their children. The parents of today are the "question authority" generation. Ick.

The authority today should be questioned more than it is. Much of the leadership today in churches and society is not very well scrutinized before being put in that position. Look at the examples of who we ahve runing for office. Look at the examples of businesses today.

The Bible teaches to question what is being taught. Let me assure oyu that very few in church today know their Bible and buy into almost everything which is said and taught. Take a look around and lok at the number of program churches. They are not about reaching people but about filling the pews.

The problem is that the parents today complain but are not involved. They spend their time complaining and watching TV. Sometime see how many people from your church attend a school board meeting and then hear how many complain something in the school district. The good schools have a lot of parental involvement and have a lot of respect from the public. The opposite is true too.

I agree with you, but some will view that approach as being "legalistic" to expect strong, standing on the promises of God Christians.:wavey:

I agree too. This is a key factor. Rebellion became fashionable in the 1960's and the children of that generation express their own rebellious nature by doubling the rebellion of their parents. What ever we do, our children will over do. But how do we put the evil spirits back in Pandora's box? It seems to me that the only solution is for God to send a real, genuine, sweeping revival across the world. We can always pray, witness, wait, and hope.

Why be concerned with such matters when Jesus is your Lord? Why spend your life reacting to criticisms rather than living for Christ.

I guarantee you that if you make discipels there will be those who call you legalistic and liberal. They will also see you as anti-Baptist.

Baptists have spent entirely too much time and effort changing names from what some other organization uses or for that matter what scripture uses, etc. in reaction to issues rather than doing what God commands.

Rebellion became fashionable with Satan. Times are no different than in the NT and OT when people rebelled. How many pastors and church members give every reason for young people to trust them? Often the question is asked "What's wrong with it" when what should be asked, "what is right about it?"

I am old enough to know about liars and cheaters in the churches, business and in every walk of life. I have seen them in "Christians" everywhere. Some of them are in pulpits and teaching Sunday School each week.

There have been great awakenings followed by cults and deception. That is not the issue and solution. The solution is a consistent walk with God discipling men and women. People want the big splash when what God wants is to make it our ambition to lead a quiet life and consistently make disciples.

You make some good points, I can't disagree with any of them. BTW my vision of a great revival is not a big splash involving sentimental sermons in a football stadium. It's families coming together under the headship of Christ.

But I would say that there is a historical significance to the culture of our times - the "post modern" times. I don't think you can find a time in history when rebellion against authority has been so prevalent in Western society since the dawning of the Christian era. The French Revolution may be the exception.

When, for example, in the Christian era, did children smuggle knives and guns into a school house? When did you EVER hear of children slaughtering dozens of their fellow students with bombs and automatic rifles before killing themselves? When did you EVER hear of "marraige" between two men or two women? Even the most pagan culture would not refer to two perverts living together as a "family". When did you EVER hear of a "gay" church? I say we live in an unprecedented time on earth. If this isn't the great final apostacy, I don't know what else it could be.

I have never thought of being in the Christian era. It does seem that Romans deal with a lot of the same issues we are faced with today.

It amazes me sometimes what I hear Christians say and support. Too often they complain about the world but are afraid or will not take a stance in the church against those who are living in sin. So many pastors today will not confront men and women involved in adulterous relationships but rather let it slide simply "because it will not do any good." What disturbed me a lot was when I told the congregation I was pastoring a few years ago that I would not come to a woman's house alone. I was surprised at how many women confronted me about that as though I did not care.

It's time you take your own advice. You are coming across as a very nasty, mean spirited person...and I don't think that is the real Sopranette? Or, is it?

By the way....I am personally tired of your public display of disrespect toward me. If you can't say something nice, maybe you should not say anything at all. After, you will be judged by what comes out of your mouth, mind and in this case, your hands [with the hate filled "spew" from your heart to the screen of the BB]. I think it's time you and I call it a day, and smokem the peace old peace pipe.

Gotta love you, even if you dispise me...

I can understand fully your frustration with today's young people. While it is true that not ALL young people are disrespectful, it is true that there is a growing number of young people, and folks of all ages and social backgrounds, who have this innate ability to "dis" anybody and everybody, anywhere, at anytime.
There are many myths about today's young people.

Take a look at
http://humanresources.about.com/od/managementtips/a/millennial_myth.htm
http://www.futuremajority.com/node/1246
http://www.sirsidynix.com/Resources/Pdfs/Company/Abram/Texas_Library_Journal_Article_August2006.pdf

While I do hear some about the issue of respect. I feel as though young people are more respectful toward me than 20 years ago. 25 years ago there was a lot of disrepect toward teachers. It is much better today than then.

When I taught high school I remember the time I got tired of hearing a Christian parent mad mouthing her daughter to me. Her daughter was actually a good student in my class. I asked the parent about what her parents said. She told me that they said the same things. I found out later that the parent was into things as a kid that would make her look like trash compared to her daughter.

Who's responding to them? I stay in the fire! I respond to only a small percentage and that is only when the lord, who is, and always has been Lord!, leads me to.

Not all of us have.
