YOU see alternatives? Wonderful, good for you. Here's a Scooby Snack.
This does not mean the young person in rural America or in the inner city sees those "alternatives." Unless and until you personally can articulate those alternatives to each and every one of those individuals in question, my observation stands.
And if you knew anything at all about Calvinism, you;d see just how stupid your last sentence sounds. I'm kind of glad you don't; it gives me extra giggles at your expense.
My cousin just finished his 3 years of service in the Marine Corps.
He was not sent to Iraq, or any other foreign nation, even after repeatedly requesting to be sent over there.
He was told, if he enlisted for another 3 years, that they would guarantee that they would send him over there.
His answer was, if you didn't see the need to send me over there during the past three years, after I requested it, then the military obviously doesn't need me over there.
He is now home.
I tend to agree with him.
As the current "rotation" is going, you have some troops that have been sent over 3 or 4 times, and some that have not been sent at all.
We have more than enough "fresh" troops to send over there, if we need to, to bring home those on their 3rd or 4th tour of duty.
The military is now just a tangled bureaucracy like any other government institution.
Draft is not immoral, nor unConstitutional...just not needed at this time.
If you want to live in a free country, you have to be prepared to fight to keep it.
Don't like it...move to Canada.
Whether I do or not is immaterial, and if you were more interested in discussing than you are in earning Fundie-points, you'd have seen that.
Yes, that's what it means.
There are three doors in a room. You have to choose which one to go through. One door leads over a cliff. One door has a hungry lion behind it.
One door has $1,000,000 behind it, but[/i] it's hidden behind a stack of boxes, so you don't know it's there.
An unseen alternative is not an alternative.
I didn't say that. Read it again, and get back to me.
Were our founding fathers forced into military action...or did they volunteer?
Is the military and obligation, or a career?
Please explain why the government markets it as a career?
Hey, if they want to start the draft, let them start the draft.
Just to let you know though, that this time there will be no exemptions such as student, clergy, married, etc.
So before you jump on the band wagon, just remember, with the age limit of today, anyone under 43 who has not completed their reserve obligation, (including those who never served), are subject to it.
This time I will wave bye bye to those leaving.
When it gets personal, maybe not such a good idea, huh.
No, they were not forced because they felt it their patriotic duty. If nothing else, they faught for the right to bear arms.
To some, the Military is a career and we need those few as the solid support and experience structure by which the rest of the service runs. The Gov marketing is geared toward ones whose calling might be a career in the military. Most people know the day they join of they are a career man or just doing a hitch.
I laugh because your statement is like the "not my job" defense. I don't have to go and you can't make me. Sure we can sit here and expect the few who voluntered to carry the weight of this mess on their tired shoulders OR the rest of us could realize we as a nation is in a gigantic mess and it will only get worse if we don't lend the few who voluntered a hand. That's the reality, if they chase us out of the middle east now there will be no safe place anywhere in the world. We will have to learn to live in a state of panic and suspecion.
Since the reality is we must finish what we started (whether you feel we should be there or not, we must finish now that we started) and not many are signing up voluntarily to participate, we just may have to start the draft. I'm not in favor of the draft or this war but Lord help us if we pull out early...
Loosing is not an option and if no one volunteers we may have to volunteer them. That's a sad reality but a fact none the less.
Hardly. If it were necessary for me to defend my family and country, I would do it. What I do not feel is right is padding the numbers for our military, and creating a draft for those to go to Iraq. Huge difference in defending your home soil.
Can your back this statement?
I would like figures of who is volunteering.
If not, it's only an assumption.
What do you think my point was, if the war was here or more personal we'd get a lot of volunteers. Because it's to better Iraq, we get the not my job complex. The problem is America is a Nation. We sink or swim together.
Whose numbers do you want? There are so many conflicting numbers it's hard to tell which to believe. Men and Women are dying and the violence is picking up. This generally means more deaths. We have the same Men and Women on their 3, 4 and 5th tours in the Middle East. We can't keep sending the same troops into combat. This is why I said we need fresh meat if we are going to continue the fight. Has nothing to do with numbers, it's about not having them come back out of their minds.
I never even looked at that Wayne but you're right. We have guys and girls giving their lives for their freedom while they are not trying hard to take over the reigns. Whatever Government we leave in Iraq won't last 10 years. Just like Israel, "Give us a King!"
