The President's Health Care Advisers
Dr. Ezekiel Immanuel - "Doctors take the Hippocratic oath to seriously" he wants doctors to look beyond the patient and consider social justice in deciding what type of care to give. And the older people should not receive the more expensive treatments. He goes on to say in defending this that" those who are 65 were once 25.
Dr.Blommenthal- we should slow medical innovation to save money and whether the cost of the timely care Americans get is worth it is debatable.
What evil people the President has advising him. Obama needs to be impeached.

Here again, Obama shows his ignorance of the medical profession. Doctors no longer are required to take the Hippocratic oath. I was appalled when I learned about that several years ago. (Don't know when it came about, probably something to do with Roe v Wade.)
Yes, he needs impeached. I hope someone in Congress will rise to the occasion, but it is doubtful. There are already bumper stickers and tee shirts calling for his impeachment. And there are almost 1/2 million signatures on a petition calling for his BC. That's a lot of fringe fishy people.
Even so, Come, Lord Jesus. There is a day coming when all things will be made right. What a wonderful day that will be. -

While I agree that what Dr. Immanuel and Dr. Blommenthal said was frightening and they should be ashamed of themselves, the Hippocratic oath is a little outdated .... well, it's a lot outdated. It needs some revision - even the modern version.
In part, it states that children of doctors will get preference into getting into medical school and that removing kidney stones and gall stones is beneath a doctor's dignity and should be left to the barbers.
And with Roe v. Wade coming into being, the part about not performing abortions is meaningless.

The point is that the advisors are more interested in social justice than individual care. Your care would be decided based on what is good for all. -

What they said did frighten me a little. And it is a ludicrous philosophy .... and ungodly. -

Oath of Office - "...support and defend the Constitution..."" I, AB, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God.'' http://www.ccnet.com/~suntzu75/oath.htm
U.S. Federal and Military Oath of Office
Hmmm....seems to me most politicians don't take their oaths too seriously either. -
The evils of collectivism strikes again!

The author of "The Hippocratic Oath and the Ethics of Medicine," Steven Miles, who is a professor of medicine and bioethics at the University of Minnesota, said there have been hundreds of revisions of the Hippocratic Oath since it was written.
Of the Cornell version, he said: "I think it's a wonderful oath, but it's not the Hippocratic oath."
He said about 80% or 90% of medical school administer some version of the original. He said the Cornell oath is so different he would not consider it a version of the classic.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
1. In 1993, 98% of schools administered some form of the Oath.
2. In 1928, only 26% of schools administered some form of the Oath.
