I heard one Old Primitive Baptist preacher put it this way... When the last token of Gods redeeming sovereign grace comes into this world, then the Lords going to come... Can't hurry God. his family is not finished yet... Brother Glen:)
Revelation 7:9 After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands;
7:10 And cried with a loud voice, saying, Salvation to our God which sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb.
But without evidence, your point is doing precisely what you deny: both imposing on Moses and imagining what he would have written, namely that he would never have used ‘yom’ that way and so didn’t here.
Saying that he did in possibly dissimilar cases does not establish your point, and is question begging to apply them here.
Again, to make it unbiased, what your point needs is a credible case of rejected opportunity. If you have it, present biblical evidence of ‘yom’ being rejected in a parallel case of sequentially numbered, long time periods.
Otherwise your point is as unreasonable as the physics exam question demanding two examples of the universe when there is only one available.
JW's are a cult that teach and don't believe Jesus is God or that hell is eternal for those not ''born again'' by the Holy Spirit ..
Two big strikes right off the bat there and I've never seen a JW's church league softball team , ''Strike 3'', in my book .. :Cautious .. lol
Correct.
If God wanted us to believe that the days of creation were long epochs of time, there is a way in Hebrew to communicate such.
But He used the word for day, coupled it with modifiers, "evening and morning"
and then said the same thing again in Exodus.
He makes Himself perfectly clear.
The Church has made the mistake of allowing science and Hollywood to hijack the interpretation of Scripture and many Christians have been led astray because of this.
Of course, they are a 19th century cult as are Christian Science and Mormonism.
They were trying to tell me that the dead don't know anything whatsoever.
Sad trap to be in that bunch.
I agree but I would add that the federal government has also contributed because they have money to give grants to the colleges and universities.
Unfortunately, that money goes to college and university science departments that are controlled by people who believe only in Darwin and don't want to defend their viewpoints against modern science.
The federal government has had a big hand in causing the collapse of the American educational system.
The Bible interprets itself... The hidden things belong to God and the revealed things belong to man... God reveals to man what he wants man to know and if it contradicts scripture then it's not from God... God NEVER contradicts himself but man contradict God and his word... It goes back to the Garden of Eden... Yeah Hath God said?... Did God REALLY say that?... Like my dear old Baptist daddy long gone to be with the Lord use to say when brethren bought up things that didn't harmonize with scripture... THAT DOESN'T EVEN MAKE GOOD NONSENSE!... Brother Glen:)
I'm not imagining what he would have written, just looking for evidence in what he did write.
I make no pretense of being unbiased. I think the Bible was written for the common people, and the common people hear it gladly without trying to make it fit scientific theories what were conceived thousands of years after it was written (as with Genesis 1). Since I don't agree with your premise of rejected opportunity, I have not looked for one. I am not presenting a syllogism that the numerical adjective proves without question that the days were 24 hours, just looking it as one piece of the preponderance of evidence that the 7 days were normal days and not something else.
A little clarification on this. IF the Bible teaches evolution or works for salvation or baptism of infants, what the Bible says is what I want to believe. BUT, I am long since convinced that it teaches none of those things, so I don't look for them in some unbiased fashion.
"The Bible interprets itself..."
Why then are there so many different interpretations even among biblical scholars?
The hidden things belong to God and the revealed things belong to man... God reveals to man what he wants man to know and if it contradicts scripture then it's not from God. This is a saying that encourages people to stagnate in their doctrine. Why bother leaning anything? God will reveal it.
God NEVER contradicts himself
Ever read Proverbs 26:4 and 5?
The bible is a book of wisdom. God gave it to us to learn of him. He is far more complex than my imaginations.
Humility, perseverance and a willingness to accept variety and change should be part of our Christian walk.
It is an obvious contradiction, placed in Scripture with purpose.
It tells us that the Bible is not a rule book for holy living but a book of wisdom.
Proverbs is wisdom literature. You need wisdom to know when to answer/not answer a foolish person.
How does this fit in with the opening post's question?
The opening chapters of Genesis are not simple narratives but a poetic wisdom hymn.
There is greater freedom in understating the various figures of speech, distinct from normative or literal expression.
Sorry,
I'm butting in because I found the Bible passage to be interesting, not necessarily whatever you'all were arguing about.
I think the page is pointing out the line one has to not cross when correcting someone who says something silly and wallowing in the mud fighting them endlessly for no good reason.
As Mark Twain said, "Don't argue with fools, or they will bring you to their level and beat you with experience."
You can't let the fool get away with what he is saying, but be sure that you don't drop to the level of a fool when answering them.
Thanx Bro, Sometimes I might throw it right back at a fool to expose him and sometimes a serious response if I detect there's some one in there, I figure according to my understanding/discernment on the matter at hand .. And I have been street witnessing where a couple drunk fools insulted some girls at the church and had to be dragged off of them lol ..
