In the interest of some open debate on the topic I'd like to agree with swaimj (from the first short-lived thread that was shut down the day after it was opened when some began to disagree with the rule) that not only do some topics need longer debate but that some "news" carries longer term political/philosophical implications and assumptions that should be debated as part of the debate about the "news".
I hope that Squire Robertson will at least look to see how the debate on the rule goes to see what the forum's own members and posters think about it before deciding it's his rule and that's "just the way it's gonna be."

If, however, you see a topic on here in which the discussion seems too short, you can always reopen the topic in one of the other forums.
Appreciate your input, Brother.

Just adding my concurence to SheEagle's remarks. If you look at the featured thread, you will see all of this forum's moderators have concurred with the rule. Further, the rule is not a new one (even though it may seem to be). It has been in effect since at least October 2001. (I have a PM in my files concerning it with that date.)
