I was discussing with a friend "Irresistable Grace" we got on to the topic of works related to Calvinism etc. What I said I'd love to see is a "debate" on these things. Where an author states "Here are the 5 best verses for doctrine X (unconditional election, speaking in tongues, whatever) and here are the 5 best verses used by those who oppose this doctrine" And then spend the time having a debate between those verses. Or something like that.
Does anyone know of a series of books like that? I know about the "4 Views of Divorce and Remarriage" and those kind, but I believe those are more correctly 4 essays that have no real exchange between them.
Just curious. If it doesn't exist, I think it'd be great. I get tired of hearing people defending a viewpoint using one set of verses, and another person saying the first is wrong, but then uses a completely different set of verses. If he's wrong, then it means he's interpreting the verses incorrectly.
I guess this was a little long of a post to ask my question.
Theology Debate Books?

A quick search on christianbook.com led me to this book: Predestination & Free Will
By: David & Randall Basinger. The Basingers are editors. Four writers including Geisler, Pinnock, and Feinberg give four views on this topic. I haven't read this book, but given the contributors, it should be a fair treatment of the topic. -
I'd opt for "The Sovereignty of God" by AW Pink. Then no matter what you read, you will have the true perspective and be able to refute/debate with the best.

Good book Dr. Bob.

I have tried to order this book on Amazon but it keeps coming up with a "there is a problem with your order" message. There system just wants to send my round in circles with regard to this particular order. :(

Thanks Dr. Bob. I checked it out but they want to charge me $10 shipping. Sam's girlfriend is going to buy a copy and bring it over when she comes for Christmas.

Pink is truly a remarkable writer. I have most of his stuff - and it's all good. Very devotional.

Monergist,
Thank you for your help. I have tried to place an order with banner of truth but their system doesn't seem to want to accept my details. The prices are very good there and I was trying to order two books by Pink. I have sent them an e-mail and will wait and see what they say.
God Bless

Thank you to all who have helped me with information regarding this particular book.

Monergist,
My copy of the Sovereignty of God arrived in the post today from Banner of Truth, UK. I also ordered Profiting From The Word at the same time and both books with postage came to £7.80, so I am very pleased. Thank you for telling me about that site. It is a new one to me, but they are very helpful.
God Bless

Check out some of their Puritan titles as well. For starters, the "Puritan Paperback" series are really good. They can be a challenge to read, as it takes time to digest that 'solid food.' I would reccomend starting with Thomas Watson, as he is one of the most readable Puritans.
Also, I have to put a plug in for anything by Iain Murray-- especially his biography of Jonathan Edwards. -
Monergist,
Thank you for the recommendations.
God Bless
