Interesting responses on tipping.
Lets widen this a bit. Do you leave the same % of tips at a buffet, where you serve yourself completely - ie food and beverage. The only service is the individual who busses your table. Does she even deserve a tip, maybe 10%??
What do you professional waitresses say?

Now if they made sure us fat people didn't overeat....

If I'm at a buffet and I do everything myself then no tip. If a waitress gets me some drink refills and attempts to provide me some service they will get a couple of bucks.

Ditto Matt's post.
If all someone is doing is bussing tables why should I tip them? They are keeping the tables clean so people will come in and pay... there is no service being rendered to me as a clean table is the responsibility of the establishment.
There are so many who think you should drop something into their hand if they even walk by. -
All the buffets we've been at are Chinese buffets where someone clears the dirty dishes off your table, gets you drinks or certain condiments if you forgot. I'll usually leave a few dollars (remember the cost of the buffet is under $10) just so that if they ever find out I'm a Christian, they'll at least say "I knew a Christian once. She was a great tipper."

we do the same - just 2-3 dollars for drinks and clearing.

If all that's done is buss the table.....10% tip.
But, if its a buffet (waitress brings beverages, rolls, maybe even tableware, refills promptly) or full service restuarant... tip 15-20%.
Rarely caught 'out' with barely enough to pay for meal..... I level 'up front' with the waitress if I know I'll not be tipping or very little tip. Although they may be disappointed... they don't show it and I've gotten good service even then. I may get 'don't worry, honey, it happens sometimes. Don't feel bad...at least you're honest.' There's been two ocassions rather recent where absent mindedly I left without tipping...honest... when I next returned, I went to the person and tipped them..... imagine their surprise. -
Bus this up - oops I mean bump

If it's a buffet and the server doesn't do anything except an occasional refill, I'll leave a couple or three dollars, or 10%.
At a regular restaurant with decent service, 15%. If the service is exceptional, 20-25%. -
