Wow! The Dow was down almost 700 points a few minutes ago but has bounced back some.
The Republican Party looks like it is staking its political future on defeating this bill. If they are wrong, the GOP will be history, imo.

Hate to burst yer hate bubble, but at last count, 95 democrats voted "NAY".
Think they'll lose their seats, Ken ? -
If this turns out badly, yes.

I don't think so. I think they'll be rewarded by their constituents. It's the repubs that decided to ignore the will of the American people, who should be worried.
-
I give the House Republicans credit for having guts. Whether they have wisdom, we'll have to see.

It looks like they have the guts to trust in the American's wisdom. Along with 95 democrats.
-
So many Dems and Rep voted no that I am questioning the seriousness of the crises. Are they putting our future at risk and gambling their careers at the expense of our livelihood or do they know something we don't? -
Question to the conservatives, how do you feel about your legislators excuse for not passing the bill? They said they were inflamed by a speech the Dems gave. The speech was read on the news but I don't see what angered them. What are the Rep still holding out for? How do you, their constituents feel about what you saw today?
This is more of an informal poll than a debate. -

It makes me happy. The truth is, Pelosi thought she could get this thru without the GOPers, didn't invite them to the debate, and then called them "unpatriotic" for not showing up.
I think it's time to call her the least effective, most partisan speaker of our lifetimes. Dem majorities in both houses, and she couldn't twist enough arms to get this passed.
Guffaw -
I really don't like to get too involved in the Politics Forum. I'll make a comment here and there, but I just don't enjoy debating politics with people I've never met - sorry!
But, I do have a sincere question here - just a question. I'm a bit confused. (BTW, I'm a conservative who's personally against the bailout.) But I've been hopping around the TV and the net and have heard Republicans blamed for this. Don't the Democrats hold a majority? Couldn't they have passed it if they wanted? Not being sarcastic here, sincerely asking, do I have my facts wrong? Enlighten me!! :tonofbricks: Or is it just a lot more complicated?? -

The real question is, does anyone think Bush is a conservative ? -

Source please. Just because Pelosi and company claims this doesn't make it so. And we need to ask why would Pelosi give a speech just before the vote blaming the other side for the crisis? And then when the vote fails hold a press conference claiming bipartisanship out of one of her faces and then play the blame game immediately afterward from the other face? The Dems are playing politics with this to the utmost. It is time for them all to grow up. And it is time for them all to return to constitutional authority and principles. -
I'm now thinking this is all part of the McCain save the country ploy. I can't find any other logic for this. His camp is attacking Obama for not going to DC so there has to be an angle for this. I don't see how he can extend this out until Thursday so canceling the VEEP debate can't be the reason so it must means he is going back to the Hill to get his party to support the legislation.
By the way, the marker has taken a record drop. The biggest drop in the history of the market. Buckle your seatbelt until McCain can get his plane back to the capitol so he can save the nation complete with cape. -

It looks lie our representative republic worked, this time. The American people wanted no part of this, and Washington listened, for once. Why shouldn't I be happy ?
I'm happy. People who trust in the Lord instead of Uncle Sam should all be happy, everyday. -
I'm glad the House didn't pass it. One can only wonder how much pork was padded to the bill.
BTW, last I heard McCain was a Senator and not in the House, how one can blame McCain for what the House does is beyond me. Go figure. -

Why weren't there enough Democratic votes to get this passed?
-
Had you of been watching the news you would have seen the Republican's stand in front of the mic with a copy of her speech and make that unbelievable excuse. I didn't believe what I was seeing.
As for why she gave a speech, again, had you of watched the news you would have seen there were 3 hours of speeches before the vote. There were far more speeches than just her's, some extremely heated and inflammatory and her's was one of the shortest.
I say again, this is about McCain saving the day cause this reeks of a McCain Hail Mary play all the way. -
The house and Senate are down the hall from each other. Being in the same political party, they sink and swim together. How one can not see the connection between McCain and anything Republican on the Hill to include the house is beyond me... -

LB, you know 95 dems voted against this, right ? The bill would have passed if 12 of them changed their mind.....
-
Now they are saying the new bill would be introduced around Thursday Morning. Do I smell cancel VEEP debate???
