Yes.
I don't know the exact reason. I guess it's just convenience.. you know .. in case you forget to bring money for whatever reason to service.
Or if you have the desire to give during the week! -
Nope - and DH and I run the website and have the final say. NO. We're not going to do it. If people forget their offering, they can mail it in or bring it the following week. Many people who use Paypal pay by credit cards and we do not want to encourage paying by credit (which is why we do not accept credit cards at all at our church - even in our bookstore). If someone wishes to bless the church, again, they can send it in the mail but everyone else should be around enough to be able to drop the offering in the plate on Sunday.

That's a good point about not wanting people to pay by credit - I never even thought about that.
-
But keep in mind - many "credit" cards are actually cash cards. I use mine all the the time. It funny, I spend less with my card - credit or cash card - but the green cash burns a hole in my pocket.

Yes, because the world is changing the way we transact financial business.
Many my age never carry cash or checks.
I don't .... if a business doesn't accept Credit/Debit cards, I WILL NOT shop there!
The only place we even write a check is to the church!
We have a place to donate on our website.
And if I could, I would allow a POS place in our church's vestibule.
Another idea is to set up Automatic Electronic transfers of funds.
This way when people go on vacation, they don't "forget" their pledge to the church.
At one point, the church operated on bartering chickens and such.
Then it moved to cash...
There was a discussion when checks started to be used...
NOW.. yrs later, another form of transferring funds has been formed.
Electronic...
I can tell you, for people younger than me, that I have talked to, Debit cards will be the main option in a few yrs..
Like I said, I don't carry cash...
Even the cashiers at our local grocery tease me.
The way I see it, if a business cannot move into the 21st century, they should close up shop...
Why would we want to limit the way young people (or old people) can give? -
I'm not sure it's good stewardship when you have to pay the fees that paypal and credit card companies charge you to accept electronic and credit card payments. Of course, that's just my opinion.
-
It is an option.
-
I don't carry cash because with my parlyzed hands I lose it too easily. I used a Master Card everywhere I go, but, and a big but, we pay the account before any interest can be added......each month it is paid in full. That is the secret of using credit cards.
Cheers,
Jim -
Also, someone might go to the ATM to get $20 to put into church and be charged a $2 fee for the ATM use .... -

Absolutely we do. When we instituted the system (we use eGiving) we saw a dramatic increase in the overall giving of our members. From an administrator's position, this has been a big win for our church. From a pastor's position, this has been a big win for our people.
It makes it so easy and we have seen many who otherwise hadn't given consistently begin to build this important practice into their lives.
As a personal testimony my wife and I are extremely busy on Sundays and would often forget to bring the cheque or who was dropping it in the bucket. Now we can enjoy the blessing of giving (we are reminded everytime a transaction is made) and honoring God consistently in our busy lives. It is truly a Godsend. (we also figure up how much our annual tithe through Visa would cost the church and give a cheque in that amount to cover our expenses.)
I'm not against debt. I think debt, properly managed, can be a good thing. If you're going into the debt to pay your tithe that is an issue between you and God.
We are always happy to refund someone's tithe if they so request it. -

See..
Being the individual with the worst memory in the history of the world, I forgot my checkbook today for the 1,000,000,00th time.
Thus .. I find myself donating online on the website to make up for it.

Did I hear something about irresponsibility here??
Put it in your Bible - you shouldn't forget it then! -
