We're Learning More From Stephen Colbert Than The Actual News, Study Says

I have contended for a number of years that the analysis of the news is better on the Colbert Report and the Daily News than on the other network news shows. These two shows point out stupidity on both the right and the left.

Want to be more informed about what's going on in the world? The findings of a new study suggest that watching Stephen Colbert might help you more than actual news programs.

A recent study concluded that "The Colbert Report" did a better job of teaching people about campaign finance in the last presidential election than MSNBC, CNN, Fox News or broadcast evening news. The study — published in Mass Communication and Society and led by a senior researcher at the University of Pennsylvania — surveyed 1,232 adults and tested respondents' knowledge of campaign finance from a variety of sources.

"['The Colbert Report'] not only increased people’s perceptions that they knew more about political financing, but significantly increased their actual knowledge, and did so at a greater rate than other news sources," the university's Annenberg Public Policy Center wrote in a statement.

The study is not the first that concludes viewers of fake news shows like "The Colbert Report" are more informed than those of other news sources. In 2012, another study found that people who watch "The Daily Show" are more informed than people who watch Fox News.

This has got to be the dumbest thing I have ever heard anyone say. Who conducted this study Bart Simpson?

Having a hard time with the link to the report.

Here is their article about the report. You can try and link to the actual report from here. If anyone gets through, I would love to see the particulars.

C.T.Boy, maybe you could find it for us ? Since this is your thread ?

Have you ever watched either program? After all Cobert is a conservative.

On this note I actually agree with the OP. Many people will watch political satire who do not watch the news. It's entertaining. So it wouldn't surprise me at all to learn that people learned more from Stephen Colbert than other sources.

Consider, briefly....
That the O.P. actually BELIEVES that Stephen Colbert is a "conservative".

That alone should tell you everything you need to know.

Stephen Colbert the character is, lol. I'm actually disappointed that he'll be dropping the facade when he takes over the tonight show.

... Cobert is a conservative.

To quote C.S. Lewis:
"Lor, what ARE they teaching these kids in these schools?"

This "study" involved a poll of.........
1,232 people...

Again...
1,232

So, obviously, that's a meaningful representation of the Nation writ-large.
And it only asks about the SINGULAR issue of "campaign finance"...not politics over-all.
Only ONE issue is spoken of.
Let's see...if I were a Communist, and I wanted to demonstrate that the "NATION" wants more socialism what would I do?

I know, :wavey: I know :wavey:.....I'd do a phone survey of 1,500 people or less in New York City or San Fransisco....and get precisely whatever result I wanted!!!!...and, I'd even choose the poorest and most monetarily unsuccessful zip code in the city!!! Bet you I could get 920 losers out of 1,232 to support my socialist agenda if I did that.

DUH....

Hey, C.T.B:
Why don't you find out what "Americans" REALLY think of homosexuality by doing a phone poll of 1,000 people in San Fransicko?...or better yet, Key West. I can "prove" that 90% of "Americans" support gay marriage by polling 1,000 people there...

Wake up and smell the ganja.

All this, from the guy who believes that Stephen Colbert is "conservative"

... who were interviewed by the "Annenberg Public Policy Center's" liberal quacks. For those not in the know, Annenberg runs FactCheck.org, one of the absolute worst liberally biased "fact check" websites that are a cover for the socialist/communist agenda.

I heard about this yesterday on the radio and they were talking about why this is. The thing is, it's actually teaching real information on finances but in a format that is not real. It's kind of like kids learning from Sesame Street - while the stories and characters are fake, they are teaching real information on particular subjects. If someone can help me understand finances better by acting, I'm all for it!! I certainly don't understand it all from regular methods!

Thank you. I appreciate your actually looking into what is really being said in the OP.

So many just give knee-jerk reactions without thinking .........all males of course.

Has anyone found the actual study ? Or are we still taking other people's words ?

And yeah, Colbert is conservative, and C.T.Boy is smart.
