    Could'a been, The Coast Guard had a LORAN Station there.

    My dad was a PBM crewman toward the end of WW2, and he talked about having been on Johnston Island.

    "The last soldier left Johnston Island by ship on 17 August 2001, but some DOD contract civilians will remain."

    If I was one of those "DOD contract civilians" that remained I'd have to be single and love to fish.
