MEE,
I can see the Great Apostle Peter come in and say, " Well, I've never gone to school and I'm a fishermen" (still chuckling here).
As if (in these days) anyone would pay him any heed with those credentials. Makes you wonder.
Besides God choses the foolish to confound the wise, when he confounded the worlds wisdom it was the "scribe" the "teachers of the law" and "sadducees". I think the Virgin mind is what God used lol!

Seth,
Paul was probably the most educated man on the face of the world at that time. Not only had he gone through the elite educational systems of the Hebrews. He was a Pharisee of the Pharisees. You might say that he had gone through their seminaries. In addition to that he had sat at the feet of the most renowned Israeli teacher of his time--Gamaliel. Later he was taught in the desert of Arabia by Christ Himself.
Acts 22:3 I am verily a man which am a Jew, born in Tarsus, a city in Cilicia, yet brought up in this city at the feet of Gamaliel, and taught according to the perfect manner of the law of the fathers, and was zealous toward God, as ye all are this day.
Galatians 1:15-18 But when it pleased God, who separated me from my mother's womb, and called me by his grace,
16 To reveal his Son in me, that I might preach him among the heathen; immediately I conferred not with flesh and blood:
17 Neither went I up to Jerusalem to them which were apostles before me; but I went into Arabia, and returned again unto Damascus.
18 Then after three years I went up to Jerusalem to see Peter, and abode with him fifteen days.
Concerning Peter,
He went through the same educational schools that Paul did, just not the Pharasaical seminaries you might say. Remeber he wrote two epistles. He knew latin, Greek, Hebrew, Aramaic fluently.

Acts 4:13 Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus.
I'm sure the dispersion of tongues in various langauges at that time might not have anything to do with it?
Seems to me a good reason why a fisherman who was unlearned and untaught knew a few languages ( being the Spirit being poured out at that time)
Yes Paul was taught by Gamaliel. But He was not taught the gospel by man.
Under Him Paul was killing Christians, its not like he could boast that this knowledge did they early church any good, he was afterall killing the church.
About the gospel it says
Gal 1:12 For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught [it], but by the revelation of Jesus Christ.
In otherwords God makes foolish the wisdom of this world because by its wisdom it did not know Him, it tries to Kill Him. Seen even in Paul Himself.
Thank God Paul was an example of the longsuffering of God toward us.

Yes DHK He acted ignorantly and in unbelief as Paul himself said and because of this his recieved mercy.
Paul said He was not taught the gospel, that he did NOT recieve it from man... Argue it over with Paul, I'm just sticking by what scripture says.
Nevertheless scripture says God confounds the wise and the learned.

Lack of education never should be equal to stoopid.
So often it is lack of opportunites etc.
I have met marvellous folk who do very plain work, taxi driving, nursing assistants to name 2 unskilled jobs. I have been astounded at the rudeness such people can be exposed to ...
Also some amazingly stupid people I have met with degrees etc..... -
I have a Trade Certificate in French Polishing, and I am working on a Bachelor of Ministry.
That is why I dont post so much on the Church History forum as this year I have had about as much of it as I can take! -
Briony-Gloriana
lol! I agree with that Briony, Education makes it easier (most often) to live sucessfully in this world. Its definately highly esteemed of by men. but God did chose the poor of this world to be Rich in faith. Though they might have nothing they could be rich in Christ who is both their sheild and Great reward. I believe somehow the hardness of this life and the emptiness of it causes a great thirst in them to be able to recieve the gospel much more readily.
I think boasting in our "weakness" is better then what we would consider our strengths, his power is made perfect in weakness.
God Bless

"Graduated" from the school of "hard knocks" i.e. 2 1/2 years in prison, 1 year parole.
I've had "schooling" in street life and academia. Give me the street any time. Folks are less full of themselves there.(In my experience)

By far the most important degree I ever earned is my verkeersdiploma (a basic course in the basic trafic rules given to all elementaryschool children in my country). Can't savely traverse the local roads without one.
Than there are a couple of swimming diploma's (life saving if falling into a large body of water).
Some certificates in professional cleaning, building maintanence and a diploma sociale hygiƫne (vital jobskills for me).
2 doctorates arthistory and churchhistory (both earned at a real university as opposed to some degreemill) -
ROFL!!!!
-
Seth,
Poor is relative. I might look at people like Oprah, for instance, as rich. However, someone that has no home might think that I am rich.
God can use people with money just as well as people without money. Having an education does NOT mean God cannot use you. Education might lead to a path that would not ordinarily be accessible except that you got the job because of your education. Then you met a group of people who do not know Jesus. You can witness to them.
From your posts it seems like education is an evil thing. Would you want a doctor operating on your child if he did not go to all those years of school? -
Jim,
You have had a host of educational opportunities. Praise the Lord, He can use every one of them to His glory!!!! Thanks for sharing. -
Lorrie Grace,
I just felt like chuckling, Com on... its "puffed up knowledge" that says, "not like one of *those degree mills"
Yes it sickens me if put in a "superior" light. That same mentality is against Christ. Knowledge puffs up love edifies. Theres nothing wrong with knowledge in itself, but making ones boast in it or in the form of "I'm better" because mine is of "higher stature" has a familiar ring to it.
God Bless Lorrie

Seth,
I was NOT boasting, though, when I answered on this thread. I was made to feel bad because of it. I just cannot tell if someone is kidding or not about this. I think I will just NOT answer anything else on this subject. BTW, I am NO better than anyone else. I hope I have made that plain. And I hope I didn't lead anyone to the conclusion that I was.
The most important knowledge that I have is that in the Lord Jesus and His Word! -
Seth,
Go to the thread: Colleges/Seminaries, and ask about degree mills and see what you can find out. Get some education for yourself before you start posting.
There are places on the internet where you can pay your fee, and they will send you a "degree," no education required--degree mills. This is what is being referred to.
