I am always interested in hearing from pastor's what they are currently preaching.

I am finishing up a series of messages on the book of Job on Sunday mornings.

I am preaching through the Sermon on the Mount on Sunday evenings.

What about you?

I have an expositional class at my church, and I am going verse by verse through Romans. My pastor announced that I anticipated completion in 2025.

Since July--I've been preaching a series I've called

"The BBBD!!"

Basic Baptist Bible Doctrine

Too many times us "Bab-batist" are accused of not knowing Bible Doctrine!---well, my church has no excuse after this series ends. Those who "hung in there" will know what it takes to "give account" of the hope that is in them---those who didn't "hang in there" won't know "diddlely!!"

Sunday nites---Footsteps of Jesus through the book of Mark

Wednesday nites---Hebrews 11---we've been on the chapter for a year now!!

I'm preaching a simple series on "What I Believe," giving me the opportunity to teach basic doctrine and practice to my people, all of whom were saved or received assurance of salvation comparatively recently.

Message #34 in Romans, concluding Rom 4:23-25, in our worship. Romans 4 has just "opened up" to me and I've been greatly blessed by it. Prior I just "blew off" much of it as Abraham and circumcision, etc, but it is phenomenal. Preach 45-55 minutes on Sunday, then 10-20 minutes of open discussion following. Part of our 4 hour church service! (serious)

Going to start in February on Chronology of the Christian Church from 100CE - today in midweek college-level program (2.5 hours each Tuesday)

Mornings - Looking at the vision God gave Ezekiel about the valley of dry bones, and how God restored them to life.

Evenings - Through the book of Acts...we're on week #6, still in the 2nd Chapter. Lot of good stuff in there!

Guys,
I am preacher not pastoring, but may I ask why it is taking some of you all so long to get through some of the studies. I prepare sermons almost on a weekly bases. TO be in HEbrews 11 for a year to me would cause me to run from the church. This is not meant to be a bash on those who take so long on a series, but I just wanted to know why.

Thanks,

Barry W. Stone

Blackbird,

I do not have Arthur Pink's book. I have access to several seminary libraries within a 10-mile radius of my house, so I'll peruse it next time I get a chance. Thanks for the tip!

I will be preaching tomorrow morning out of Titus 2:11 - 15 on Biblical Holiness.

Unless the Lord changes my message on me. He has done this many times

Barry,

The Lord reveals so much in Hebrews 11. Many pastors are given the ability of giving an expository sermon on each verse that can last for two services.

I knew a pastor that took that long to go through Psalm 34 once.

And the services were wonderful! If one is wanting a dinner, one does not mind so much wading in the deep water to catch the trout.

As long as the pastor doesn't go down too deep and come up too dry! There is a real art to expository preaching that can hold the hearts of the people. I once preached through Galatians in about a year (okay, I rushed)! I don't recall adding anyone through the preaching, but at least I didn't lose anyone! (Smiley face wiping his brow here.)

Seems like I heard once that W. A. Criswell built his church on expository preaching. Anyone know?

Yup, yup. Somewhere in the recesses of my files I have a copy of Criswell's 5 year preaching plan. That's right, he had his messages scheduled for 5 years in advance.

I am doing good to have mine 5 days in advance, but then I preach to a variety of people in a variety of places (1 church and 2 missions I preach at each week) so my messages for each place are custom made so to speak.

Yep. Part of the church there in 86-88 and he was a master at it So gracious, but solid verse by verse exposition. In the pm service either Bro Lowry or Paige Patterson preached and likewise worked through a book.

I figure on 3 years on Romans (about 8-9 messages per chapter)

Feb 5 #35 on Rom 5:1-2 "My Standing in Grace"

Feb 12 #36 on Rom 5:3-5 "Growing thru Suffering" (and then catch a plane south and "suffer" on a cruise thru the Panama Canal)

Feb 19 #37 on Rom 5:6-8 "Unbounded Love" by Dave, an elder-in-training who is finishing his MA in Theology

Feb 26 #38 on Rom 5:9-11 "Reconciled to God" by Jim, another elder-in-training who has his MA and is a school teacher here

We have already met twice with the men, worked through the translation and possible outline ideas for their use. We will meet a few more times in the next couple weeks for sure!! And each will cover carrying the rest of the load on the Sunday the other one preaches in my absence.

Ask me if I LOVE plurality of elders?!!
