Tim, you are quite right. But I can't tell you how many times I have heard preachers use such language that suggests that to be saved, walk the aisle.

    I've heard:
"C'mon, meet Christ here at the altar..."
"Counselors are here waiting for you...
    "Jesus is waiting for you..."
(Billy Graham): "I want you to get up out of your seat..."

    And the like.

Rarely have I ever heard a preacher exhort people to come to the front to make their salvation public.

I don't for a minute believe they really mean walking the aisle equals salvation. But it's a careless use of the language that I doubt if they're really thought through.

It depends on which Baptist you are talking to! Do you realize how many varieties of Baptists there are?? I think too many to count.

Most Baptists, I would think, believe that what is at issue here are the teachings, not the denomination. Of course, presbyterians, methodists, lutehrans, and others can be saved. The denominational differences in Christian churches are on secondary points, not the essentials. But then there are dead churches which are stuck in superficial things and not discipling or preaching the word, and there are liberal churches departing from the faith. But you can find these in many denominatinos. So the point is not so much the denomination (as far as Christian churches go) as whether or not the gospel is being proclaimed.

Well, it's highly likely that the people in charge of these things were not really believers.

It sounds like you've made up your mind on this.
