I wouldn't be surprised, where we are for Christmas, the Midwest, people are buying ammunition in crate fulls. They are all saying President Obama and Congress are going to take it all away soon. There is a sense of panic in their actions. It's weird.

Please. We heard the same sort of rhetoric when O was elected. People need to calm down and vote him out of office if they are really afraid.

Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity, Bill O'Reilly and a couple of other right wing media extremists are behind the lie that the Obama administration is plotting with the UN to take guns away from Americans. It is a patently false claim, given not only the fact that there has been absolutely no move to do so for four years, but it has certainly helped out the corporate interests who manufacture and sell guns and ammunition.

That there needs to be enforcement of the more than 20,000 gun control laws already on the books is a given. Most of the rest of the industrialized world, countries such as Australia, Japan, France, Germany, England, the Netherlands, Denmark, Switzerland...... have figured this out, in some cases, like Australia and Switzerland, without major restrictions on actual gun ownership. But the idiocy and paranoia that people demonstrate when rumors go around without substantiation, well, thank goodness I'm not wasting my money on it, and perhaps it will help out the economy.

"You go into some of these small towns in Pennsylvania, and like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing's replaced them," Obama, an Illinois senator, said.

"And it's not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations," he said.

It's deja vu folks. Early 90s before the 'assault weapons ban came into effect 'ten years worth of 'assault weapons' were sold in one year'.

Nothing new here.

You all are missing the point.
The media is, of course, in Obama's pocket. MSN is blatantly biased and antigun. This is shown in their reporting. For example....the article that is posted in the OP. They are dishonest.

Please stay on topic.

I am on topic. It was zactly same way early 90s. The media behaved in the same manner, the dumb politicians passed the gun control bill(s) then those same dumb politicians got voted out out 94 mid term elections, and trust me, they haven't forgotten that.

Nothing new here except that notice how they're avoiding the term 'gun control' now by using the terms 'firearms reform' and 'gun policy'?

Right again...

You will take these words back within the next four years.

...he may well be eating those words, sooner than later!

I can hear the marching of the UN troops, here to help America regain control of a violent time in her history. Everytime I go through one of those federally funded road blocks to check for DUIS, liceenses, current inruance and other things, I realize how easy it would be to limit and control our roadways. The locals are getting good practice at roadblocks. :wavey:

Errm, in the last year the UN conference on small arms trafficking did try to pass resolutions which would have called for the US to violate the 2nd Amendment.

Please.

There is no option available to "vote him out of office".

He will be out of office in 4 years. Since he will not be in office beyond this upcoming term, he does not have the restraint that held him back until November of this year. The first 4 years were used to setup the framework to accomplish his goals during the second 4.

Get your facts straight before accusing others of lying. Straight from the horse's mouth - the UN.

Many Governments have voiced concerns about the absence of globally agreed rules to guide their decisions on arms transfers. In 2006, they have embarked on a preparatory process to negotiate a robust legally binding instrument to establish high common standards for international trade in conventional arms. This process paved the way for the United Nations Conference on an Arms Trade Treaty that was held in July 2012 at the United Nations in New York.

Despite the efforts put forth by Governments during the four-week intensive negotiations, the Conference in the end could not reach an agreement. It is envisaged that the General Assembly of the United Nations will soon decide to convene another conference in March 2013 to conclude the work begun in July 2012. The United Nations is steadfast in its resolve to support negotiations on a robust arms trade treaty.

UN launches new International Small Arms Control Standards
http://www.un.org/disarmament/update/20120829a/
29 August 2012 — On August 29, the International Small Arms Control Standards (ISACS) were launched in a side event of the Second Review Conference on the United Nations Programme of Action on the Illicit Trade in Small Arms and Light Weapons. The new standards will help to ensure that the UN provides support to Member States on putting in place effective controls over the full life-cycle of small arms and light weapons — from manufacture, marking and recordkeeping to storage, transport and international transfer to the tracing, collection and destruction of illicit weapons.
------------
The 23 UN entities that make up the UN Coordinating Action on Small Arms (CASA) mechanism have contributed expertise, time and money over the last three-and-a-half years. They also opened the process of developing the standards to experts from governments, international and regional organizations, civil society and the private sector.
-------------
Following their launch, the standards will be used by CASA partners to support programmes and projects designed to assist Member States in controlling arms and reducing armed violence. The work of drafting the standards may be coming to an end, but the task of applying them is only just beginning.

Obama told to back off U.N. gun treaty
Lawmakers join general in declaring pact a threat to freedom
http://www.wnd.com/2012/07/obama-told-to-back-off-u-n-gun-treaty/

Over 100 members of Congress appear to share the concerns of a former Army general who has sounded the alarm over efforts by the Obama Administration to push through the United Nations Arms Trade Treaty, or ATT.
-----------

The ATT would specifically require signatories to identify and trace, in “a timely and reliable manner,” illicit small arms and light weapons. The information would be required to be submitted to the United Nations.

The treaty was opposed by the Bush administration, but President Obama’s administration reversed direction on the treaty. U.S. Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, said the United States would support talks towards ratifying the treaty.

Who's making "patently false" claims about the last 4 years?
