GARBC but if there was a Primitive Baptist Church close enough I might identify with them.

 

I forget, how many flavors does Baskin Robbins have? I think we have more.

Our group is unaffiliated with any larger body (i.e., association, convention, fellowship). We have historical roots that go back to the Baptist Missionary Association of Texas and the American Baptist Association.

IMO the SBC approaches being a denomination.

Remember that is MY OPINION.

Yes it is probably true that "others" wish their local body would get out.

 

What don’t you like about it?

 

Interested....where I live they are really cautious about having any involvement with SBC any the churches (in the past) that did work with them all closed. I was surprised that two independent churches had chosen to hire pastors out of the SBC Seminary (stables) in Louisville. I went a few times to the church but I’m not impressed & I thought I was going to be... seeing as they only graduate 20 a year and Al Mohler is their mentor. What’s going on with them?

 

Where's this "20 a year" number coming from?

I quick search shows 320 in the spring commencement and 208 in the winter for calendar year 2018. Granted, that's everything from MAs to PhDs,

 

We recently moved, and were impressed by the
Father to aid in a very hurting SBC church. The pastor is about as new as my wife and I to the church. He is a DTS graduate, who like me, enjoys the doctrines of grace, but doesn’t make much ado about it at all.

In the past I have fellowshipped and served a wide variety of Baptist - independent, fundamental (although some Baptist have disregarded that at one time all Baptist held to the fundamentals), even some that refused the name Baptist because they didn’t like it for various reasons.

God seems to lead me to people and places that have been wounded. Some of that comes out in posts as I seek to look beyond what is typed and in some manner discern the person behind the keyboard.

Ultimately, I am an old servant of the Lord who shuns vain glory, and could care less about name recognition, and even assembly affiliation. Neither will be an aid when I will soon stand before my Savior.

Soul Liberty means Baptists do not believe in compulsion. God offers the lost salvation, and each individual chooses to put their faith in Christ or not. The alternate view (also held by a flavor of baptist) is we are incapable of choosing Christ, and must be enabled through irresistible grace, in order to believe. Arminians believe we are able to choose (enabled from the get go by prevenient grace) and Calvinists believe we are unable to choose unless enabled by "irresistible" (compelling) grace."
A third flavor believes our fallen and corrupted nature did not incapacitate us from choosing Christ.

Here is what I found in researching the doctrine:
I. THE DOCTRINE OF INDIVIDUAL SOUL LIBERTY

A. Definition.
Basically it means that God has given freedom and the ability of persons to know and respond to God’s will.

Now you may hold a different view, but that does not make my view wrong.
