What is Scripturally wrong with a sister reading Scripture in the worship service?
I asked this because of a sermon I listened today. A sister was actually reading the Scripture.

But, personally, I don't find anything wrong with a sister reading Scripture in the worship service if she were asked to, or if that was part of the outlined order of worship that some churches have.
Now, if she starts to interpret, as in preaching, the Scripture she read, that should be something I will interrupt. Or I may simply just quietly walk out of the service altogether, and speak privately with whoever prepared the order of worship, or the pastor when the opportunity presents itself. -
Seriously though, why? WHy would a woman need to read the scripture?
If they are not to preach then what practical purpose is there for it?
A woman is not to hold a place of leadership but simply reading is not leading over a man.
But then it could be argued that having the "floor" so to speak is a place of authority.
I am not going to be dogmatic about it but it seems to be uneeded at best and unbiblicalat worst. -
Was it like the pentacostal style of peaching where someone reads a verse then the preacher expounds? I know several preachers that use women for this style of preaching.

Brother Apollos certainly profited from a woman, along with her husband (and not subsidiary to him), reading and teaching the Scriptures. Acts 18:26.
We really need to rethink the concept of authority. Baptist polity does not lodge authority in a pastor, male or female, but in the congregation. -
I have no problem with it...
We have done it before...
Even women giving devotions during service....
If God gifts them, use them. -

I would allow a woman to read a sermon written by a man. As in the Bible, the written word has authority over the reader.

I do not see a problem with it. I think there are some passages that just sound nice with a woman reading it - and we've had "dramatic readings" where a woman will read what a woman said in Scripture.

There are a number of women who preached in the New Testament.
An evangelist named Philip had four virgin daughters who were prophetesses. Acts 21:8,9.
Acts 2:18, "…both men and women…shall prophesy,"
Anna was also a prophetess, Luke 2:36.
Prophsied is to speak as a mediator between God and humankind or in God's stead. [From dictionary.com] This obviously means to preach.

1. Someone who is the mouthpiece of God. He stands between God and man to communicate to man the word of God.
2. A person who speaks by divine inspiration or as the interpreter through whom the will of a god is expressed.
3. A person gifted with profound moral insight
4. A prophet was a preacher or proclaimer of God's word, however in addition to preaching from the scriptures
I believe this shows that a prophet did and does preach. I would say that your statement is quite incorrect.

Arise, go unto Nineveh, that great city, and preach unto it the preaching that I bid thee.
