I just tell them straight up that I don't believe in astrology, but if you must know, I'm a sagittarius. I personally don't see what the point is behind astrology. The stars don't dictate what my future holds or in what direction I'll be going except away from the person that is an astrologer.

I wouldn't tell them what sign you are. I would say, "Why do you want to know?" in a friendly way. The reason they probably want to know is to analyze you from what they know about the signs. I do not want to be analyzed that way, so I ask them why they want to know. This can lead to a fruitful discussion about why you do not accept astrology.

I wasn't going to get into this, but here's another possible response:

Due to something called the precession of the equinoxes (tilt of the earth moving the orientation of the North Pole over the centuries), the signs have moved back quite a few degrees. Therefore, people who think they are Libra might be Virgo, Virgos might be Leo, Leo might be Cancer, Cancer might be Gemini, etc.

The sign is the sun sign (in India, it's the moon sign) which means the constellation the sun appears to be in at the time of birth. This has shifted so many people are not the sign they think they are.

Were the "three", maybe only two, wisemen who followed the star (bright light) to find the baby Jesus astronomers? It is generally assumed that they were.

Astronomy was not new to New Testament times.

    Cheers,

    Jim

At that time, astronomy and astrology were the same thing. We don't know how many "wise men" there were, but undoubtedly, they were astronomer/astrologers. However, following a star (which I think was a supernatural light) is not astrology.

I have something on it on my site:

    It's not very long! :wavey:

I see your point. I wouldn't want to be analyzed either. Its hard for me to ask them why they want to know without sounding rude. For some reason when it comes out of my mouth, that's what it sounds like. Its not that I'm trying to be rude, it just comes out that way. Fortunately, no one has ever asked me.

Just say it with a smile and it will not sound rude. Or you can say, "I'm curious as to why you'd like to know" or "Do you follow astrology?"

Safe - so far! But you never know! I was on a subway in DC and the woman next to me wanted to borrow the Style section of my paper. She wanted to read her horoscope. As soon as she said that, I said, "Well, I'll lend it to you but I used to be an astrologer and I can tell you why you shouldn't read it." She wanted to know why and the rest of the ride (about 30 min.) I was able to give her my testimony and also listen to her (she had just lost her mother and was depressed). You just never know who God will put you with for His purposes! So be prepared!
