I lean toward Joshua's view myself. Things like this happen becuase there is sin in the world. While God is soveriegn He is not a dictator. He doesn't pull our puppet strings every moment of every day. (btw a word study of the King James reveals not a single use of the word sovereign in the entire Bible)
Children are snatched from their beds because the heart of man is desperately wicked. And that is all there is to it.
You ask, why would God let it happen? Because God in His infinite wisdom choose to allow men to continue to live in creation even though He knew they would sin. He nearly destroyed us all at the flood, yet the Bible says He looked at what He'd done and vowed to never take such drastic action again.
Sin is what brought this child into the unknown. Who's sin? Seems there is plenty of blame to go around.
Only in eternity will sin finally be resolved. Until then we're stuck with it and its earthly consequences.Click to expand...
Did Jesus design the storm? Or isn't it more of a truth that although he never promised us that we wouldn't go through storms, but rather that He would always be there to go through them with us!
This dilemma of the child being snatched away is definitely a storm.
The purpose of the storm has one initiator, and another who has a propensity to calm the storm by his design.
The propensity to calm the storm rests in His power to overcome the raging waves caused by sin. If this family will learn this, God will be glorified and they will have rest.:godisgood: -
Jesus at the tomb of Lazarus...
Jesus INTENTIONALLY waited..
Then look what happens...
John 11:37-40
(37) And some of them said, Could not this man, which opened the eyes of the blind, have caused that even this man should not have died?Click to expand...
People basically asked the same question people ask today, "If God is so good, then why do bad things happen?"
Then Look at Jesus' response...
(38) Jesus therefore again groaning in himself cometh to the grave. It was a cave, and a stone lay upon it.
(39) Jesus said, Take ye away the stone. Martha, the sister of him that was dead, saith unto him, Lord, by this time he stinketh: for he hath been [dead] four days.
(40) Jesus saith unto her, Said I not unto thee, that, if thou wouldest believe, thou shouldest see the glory of God?Click to expand...
In the case of the OP.. An Evil person committed an evil deed because God allows man to choose between good and evil.

CoJoJax said:Hey guys..
I'm already going to say off the bat, I don't have NEAR the knowledge of the Bible and everything as you guys too .. especially reading through all these posts .. but I was hoping by signing up that I would learn a thing or two.
Here in Jacksonville, FL, a little girl named Haleigh Cummings (5-years-old), was kidnapped out of her home in the middle of the night Monday. (Link: http://www.firstcoastnews.com/news/local/news-article.aspx?storyid=131162&catid=294). It's a very sad story and not great to hear considering that whole Caylee Anthony thing that occured recently nearby.
First off, I ask that everybody please pray for the safe return of this little girl. Stories like this always make me very sad - I hope that God can return her to her family.
Secondly, my question is -- why does God allow an event like this to happen? Is it to teach something to the child, the parents, the community ..? Or would you say this is more Satan's doing?
I just want to get better understanding of this all ..
Thanks.

Thanks for the insight everybody. I definitely have a better understanding of this subject now. I really appreciate the scripture references - helps me with notes in my Bible to understand future situations.
