One of the shades of meaning for "hesed" is steadfast love. Has this been challenged? Nope.
It seems use of all these translations, and lexicons, and Bible dictionaries, and Theological Dictionaries, and Exhaustive Concordances and commentaries should be discouraged, unless you have passed muster by those who have seated themselves above the rest of God's family. -
Van, you're in luck. For Hosea 6:6 the Lexham, ESV and NRSV all have steadfast love.
But among your favorite versions you are out of luck.
The NASB and HCSB have loyalty.
The NET has : faithfulness.
The WEB has : mercy.
For Matthew 12:7
The NASB has : compassion.
The HCSB, WEB, NET, ESV, NRSV and Lexham
all have mercy.
For Matthew 9:13
The NASB has : compassion
The HCSB, WEB, NET, ESV, NRSV and Lexham all have mercy -- just like the previous reference.
It's a wonder that the ESV, NRSV and Lexham didn't render the two matthew passages with steadfast love as also. Oh well...
