While away this weekend we plan to go to a church. What type of churches are these? http://funchurch.publishpath.com
My guess would be contemporary evangelical. Probably using some of Rick Warren in their philosophy, however they look sound from a theological standpoint. Does not appear to be Calvinist.
http://www.mvbf.org Contemporary Evangelical. Probably one of 2 good choices of the churches I am aware of in the area.
There are no 9 marks churches local to the area so we have to choose the best of these churches. Am not aware of any IFB Churches and besides I want to give my family a new perspective on church. So far they think that IFB are the only churches and this is false. I have been to lots of solid churches that were not IFB in my day. Just because someone does not wear a suit and tie, worships in a contemporary composition, and uses the NIV or ESV from the pulpit does not make them a bad church!
My brother in law has been a Weslyan pastor in a couple of Wisconsin churches for about a decade.
While he is charismatic (more pentecostal really) the Weslyan church in his part of the country is not.
They will obviously tolerate charismatics in their churches and behind their pulpits but they apparently keep in the closet.
My brother in law was told by his Overseer that if he ever taught or preached on speaking in tongues he would be dismissed.
Perhaps that is unique to his area or his Overseer but that was my BIL's experience with the Weslyan Church in Wisconsin.
He is Charismatic no question. Read his books. But if not that then I have heard it on a Grace To You Broadcast or CD. Piper is a great teacher, just saying he leans Charismatic.
One whom believes in the sign gifts are for today. Some may have a charismatic worship style but may not believe in the sign gifts. Calvary Chapel would be an example of charismatic in worship, but Calvinist in theology.
