I have seen a lot of criticism of Ted Cruz and his run for President. (not necessarily just on this board) but I have yet to see anything substantial. This thread is about presenting a real case for why Ted Cruz should not be President. If you have an interest in taking part in this thread please provide reasons why along with evidence of what you are talking about.
What is not exceptable are vague criticisms such as:
"He wants insurance for himself but not for everyone else."
" He likes to shut down the government"
Those types of statements are political talking points and cannot be supported.
However, simply saying "he is just not my preference" is honest and substantial.
Folks this post above is an example of the vague and inane criticisms that are contrary to the op. It holds nothing substantial in it to stand on. It is irrelevant and imbecilic.
I think that many were offended when he quoted Thomas Jefferson saying that we are endowed by Our Creator with certain inalienable rights, although Cruz (which is Spanish for Cross) said that our rights came from God.
Also, like Fidel Castro, Cruz is a white Hispanic and therefore not a real Hispanic, who would be a Democrat.
He's a divider, not a uniter. He rips the Democrats (as he should) but also criticizes the Republicans even though he's only been a senator for a little over 2 years. He has no legislative record, or if he does, it's a record of "I blocked this", "I stopped this from happening". As President he's going to have to be able to compromise and get things through.
His idea for a flat tax is appealing in its simplicity but it would amount to the biggest tax break in history for the wealthy. It could not maintain current tax revenues. The deficit would widen.
Funny how conservatives seem to want a well qualified man or woman of the people for president and democrats just don't care.
They want someone from their party to occupy the office, doesn't seem to matter if they are qualified or not.
The predictions that Obama would be in over his head, was an idiot on economics and even worse on foreign affairs, have all proven true.
Yet here we are six years later and they're still supporting their guy as he tries to rip the fabric of the nation and sell us out to our enemies.
Wait a minute. Cruz is the right wing version of Obama. That's the point. The parallels are there to see. Inexperienced back bencher barely into first term in the Senate. No legislative accomplishments. No important committee assignments. Inflexible--my way or the highway. I would throw in that Cruz, like Obama, is arrogant and smug.
The OP is "Why Shouldn't Ted Cruz be President?", not "Can Ted Cruz be Worse than Obama?"
They want a well qualified man or woman of THEIR people. They don't seem to worried about the other people.
Romney vs a former Senator and 4 year President. Now are you talking about the GOP? The same GOP that is so in love with the over qualified Ben Carson?
Ben Carson.
As inept as folks think Obama is, there have been month after month of positive economic data. They claimed he would sink the DOW. It's been in record territory. Job numbers have consistently been looking up. It's the best in Georgia that I've seen in several years.
Romney said he would get unemployment below 6% by the end of his first term in 2016. Obama has it at 5.6% in January of this year.
I think the GOP just wants this President to fail no matter what it does to the state of the nation. Thankfully he realized that and has figured out some work arounds to thwart the machinations of the GOP to the country's benefit.
The ripping of the fabric of the nation is coming from racially prejudiced and racist old white men who want to start wars. Most everybody else seems to just be trying to coexist with their neighbors and live.
That's another reason why I don't get the Ben Carson fascination. That man isn't gonna win anything. And he's far less experienced than folks in the GOP ever thought Obama was.
That's the impression I got. He even announced his candidacy via social media. I thought that too harkened back to Obama's use of the internet and social media to galvanize the voting efforts of young people back in 2008.
I see a lot of similarities and positioning seemingly to be the GOP Obama. Jeb has kinda been trying to position himself that way too.
I don't think either Cruz or Obama were ever NBC, but the precedence is set, so never mind. Not sure about Cruz, all I know is that he looks a lot like Bill Murray and I'm a little shaky on his pro-H1B visa stance.
In hindsight, you're probably right on most of this but in 2007, Senator Obama was never considered to be a "bomb-thrower" like Ted Cruz is. Obama gave a speech as the candidate at the 2004 DNC that was supposedly uniting, then he sat back and twiddled his thumbs in the Senate until he defeated Hillary in the 2008 primaries.
I don't think that a flat tax will pass because of deductions for mortgage interest and for donations to charity, but the idea that lower tax rates would cause a bigger deficit is the traditional Democrat point on supply side economics and Ronald Reagan.
The Democrats are pointing out that quoting the Declaration of Independence is extremist.
