OUR SISTER SARAH PALIN'S ANTI-ELITIST CHARM
September 20, 2008
I KNOW Sarah Palin, and so does my wife.
Neither of us ever actually met the governor of Alaska, but we grew up with her - in the small-town America despised by the leftwing elite.
SNIP
And she wants to be vice president?
The opinion-maker elites see Sarah Palin clearly every time they look up from another sneering article in The New Yorker: She's a country-bumpkin chumpette from a hick state with low latte availability. She's not one of them and never will be. That's the real disqualifier in this race.
Now let me tell you what those postmodern bigots with their multiple vacation homes and their disappointing trust-fund kids don't see:
Sarah Palin's one of us. She actually represents the American people.
Why the left hates Sarah Palin

Good article - I agree with much of it.

I do not know about the elite. But I do know about me. I grew up in the country, I mean country, i.e. water from a cystern outside, no indoor plumbing, no central heat, wood cook stoves, wood stove in the living room, no heat in the bedrooms, cracks in the old log house that let skiffs of snow in on a windy day or night. This was not small town like Palin. Small towns are comfortable. Not sure what small town means. The big town was ten miles away from where I grew up and had at least 8,000 people.
Now having said that, I am accused of being liberal. I don't think I am. I am a traditional Republican. I have not moved my stance, but the Republician party has moved away from me. It does not matter how you view me. Anyway, I do not hate Palin. I just find her offensive and not ready for the job.
I think hate is too strong a word for most people who are not in favor of her. But the media on both sides like to sensationalize things ... and thus extreme words are used. -
I must admit to being perplexed.
I ask so that I may better understand your position concerning Palin for whom you have expressed your misgivings about so frequently. -

I was and am for little government ... modern Republicians, through their actiions have proven they are for big government ... regardless of what they say.
I am for little spending .... modern Republicians have spent us, our children, our grandchildren, etc., etc., etc. into the poor house.
I am for equality for all ... isn't that why the Republican party was first formed? Modern republicians, at least the politician, seem to be only for big business.
I am for helping our own ... I am not convinced that modern Republicians care much or the average American.
Where I grew up Hoover and FDR both were hated by the majority of people. On the economy it appears that the current administration will be in the same dog house as Hoover. [I am not arguing that it is all Bush's fault, but the one in office gets the credit and/or the blame.]
These are just points off the top of my head, sort of spur of the moment thoughts.
If I were to meet Palin, no politics involved, I would probably like her as a person. As a politician I am very concerned about her being one heartbeat away from being President. -
And yet you seem to have no problem with the democrats ?

What you need to know in order to understand crabby is that when a liberal is against to much spending it is referring to military spending. They have the will to spend an unlimited amount on destructive entitlement programs. -
Great article!

I was in the Army. Almost all my working life I worked for a defense contractor. You are so smug and so wrong on so much. -
lol, that is funny.
FTR, I don't think Crabtownboy is a liberal. Misguided perhaps but well intentioned and while probably left of myself not far enough left to earn the liberal tag. -
It's visceral hate. Unrelenting attacks on a vice-presidential running mate?
It's like you've forgotten who is actual running for president, you're so caught up in hateful attacks. -
I see many similarities with the way the left is treating Palin and the elitist attitude that they had when Ronald Reagan ran for president. "No foreign policy experience", " not too smart", blah, blah, blah.
Palin strikes me as a natural leader with the skills needed to surround herself with the right people. McCain is also a leader. Obama is no leader. He is a puppet specifically chosen by a left wing cabal to socialize the United States. But maybe that is what a majority of its citizens want. -

She frightens them.
After all, she should be home taking care of her family instead of running for VP. -
She scares them silly, because she represents the hometown moral values of the fly-over portion of America and we aren't elitists.

I am not sure when rational dialogue was killed in our society ... at least for a large part of our society. When I was a kid people seemed to enjoy getting together and discussing, knowing that there would be differences of opinion. But no one accused others of hatred. In fact, tolerance toward others was preached to us by our elders in the little village church I grew up in. That was one of the cornerstones of being Baptist, tolerance toward others and defending their rights as well as our own. -

i'm against her (don't hate her) because she has neither the credentials, the experience or the ability to be vice-president. Double my concern about her being president. Did you read that the Russian president is upgrading their nuclear capabilities to include a space based defense system? How would Sarah Palin respond? She couldn't even articulate what her running mate's record had been on the economy. Shouldn't we expect to have qualified candidates for the highest offices in the countyry?
Why do you HATE Obama? -
Personally, I've lost faith in both Parties, and I would really desire to see a fair share of the stage with other candidates from Independent Parties.
