no, its a different context Its addressed to women at home not concerning their behavior in the church...

    Titus 2
5 To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.

my sense of the matter is that Paul is addressing the Corinthian women only.

Nope. If you use that model of interpretation, then Paul was only addressing the specific recipient of each epistle. If that is the case, rip out all his epistles and throw them away because they are useless.
He was addressing the universal church as well as the recipient. Tradition is the churches circulated the letters.

Do you speak in tongues Reynolds?

Why not? is the Corinthian epistle therefore useless because it doesn't apply to you concerning speaking in tongues?

Paul admits to speaking in tongues.

I have said many times that I see no scriptural evidence to prove tongues ceased. Though much abuse exists in the Charismatic world, it does not cause me to throw the Baby out with the bath water. There is quite a bit of Chrismatic Chaos today and there was obvuously quite a bit of Charismatic Chaos in the Corinthian church. In fact, there was so much Chaos in the Corinthian Church, it would shock me if these same problems did not exist today. The official SBC position is non-prohibition of tongues. So to answer your question, yes I do speak in tongues. There are a lot of Southern baptists, even pastors, that do as well.

I take your response as you do not.
i see the 1st century infant church of the Corinthians as a group within the Body of Christ that is being perfected in love - babes in Christ.

Not yet fully walking in the Spirit in truth and love as is the end product expectation of the grace of God.

    Galatians 3
28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.
29 And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.

thanks - its an explanation of my "value system" not an evangelizing tool.

But FWIW Here is my view of the 1 Corinthians 15 agape scriptural expectation of spiritual growth:

2 Corinthians 3:18 But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord,
are changed (metamorphoo) into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.

as we gaze upon His glory in HIS WORD we undergo a metamorphosis slowly into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.

    From Adam to Christ.

So, that "growth" and metamorphosis will cause you to do the exact opposite of what Scripture plainly declares?

No. Decide Pauls epistles do not apply today.

The context of 1 Corinthians 13:8-12. ". . . but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known. . . ." When the Apostle is in the Lord's presence, ". . . We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord. . . ." -- 2 Corinthians 5:8. He is now. Anyway, that is my understanding. We can start another thread, if need be.

I dont think that debate will ever be solved on this Earth. IMO we still see through a glass dimly and will continue to do so until we see Jesus face to face. Most of the discussions on B.B. prove our understanding to be dim.

    well - be my guest...

AOBTW in obedience of 1 Corinthians 14:35 are the women of your local church instructed to NOT SPEAK A WORD until they are off the premises,

34 Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law.
35 And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church.
