Yep. That is the best part of the ad.

Did you guys read a part that I missed?
Sometimes our IFB churches feel the need to lay it all out like that. Usually I think its a reaction to the world we see around us. I know it was pointed out to one preacher I know that advertising like this appeals to the very conservative Christian, but it isn't going to make anyone else feel real welcome. If we are going to advertise at all, why not present an ad that will be welcoming to anyone who is seeking a good church? The preacher Im talking about changed the style of the sign outside his church, and there was no problem. No preaching had to change, but it certainly came across as a more friendly place to be. -
Bap, have you read his essays and listened to any of his messages on the website?
-
What a visual aid for the book on spiritual abuse some of us are reading!
-
But of course unless you think Homosexuals should die, you would be considered a liberal also... smells like Westboro "Baptist" to me. Or at least a copycat of Westboro. -
PastorSBC,
no I hadn't because the links didn't work for me yesterday. I finally got into the church's website this morning. He does come across as pretty volatile. -
I hadn't made the connection. Of course, I desperately try to think of Westboro as little as possible. -
Wow!! You guys are a tough crowd...and IMO have made some very volatile remarks yourself. If he is just trying to get a rection to make himself justified then he definitely got it from you "liberals".
CraigbytheSea: Was that homosexual comment really neccessary?
If you don't like the guys essays or comemnts don't go to his church or his website or respond to any of his threads. But to openly attack another Believer in this way is uncalled for, immature, and contrary to the vision and intent of the Baptist Board. Maybe it is just me but Jesus is the only able to "cast stones" and he never cast any.
So agree to disagree or just choose to ignore anything that this member writes but this anger, disrespect, and unkindness is contrary to anything my Bible tells me we are to be like. -
Thats true MRCoon. Normally Id be right along with ya, but this time he asked for comments and wanted opinions on his ad.
Like I said earlier, sometimes we IFB are so intent on letting everyone know everything we believe about about every issue out there, that we come across as being really harsh. This doesn't mean I think we should tone down our preaching....no....but I do think we ought to be willing to show a softer side of us as well.
Thats all I was trying to say. -
I'm sorry MRCoon, but Mr. Anderson posted the essays for comments. Now, he might have expected all the comments to be positive, but that's because he didn't spend enough time round here getting to know us first. I think he found a Baptist place and thought (out of ignorance) that we would all believe the same as he.
I do think Mr. Anderson needs to come back and discuss with us rather than just posting his essays. I agree that Craig's comment was unnecessary. -
Bitsy, I agree completely.
-
The thread was about the Ad period not his essays but you'll have seemed to either fallen into his need to creating controversy or his need to justify his actions...one way or another this thread (as before) has taken on a mean spirited tone and seemingly has become full of personal attacks. My advice (again) is to just ignore him or comment on just his subject and not all the attacks or other stuff is relative or important.
-
You and I have not always agreed on things. But I have always respected you as an intelligent and transparent person.
I cannot see you being a part of his church.
As far as the ad goes, I have no problem with any church laying it out there as far as their beliefs. My concern for this situation is what people will find themselves in after they arrive. Seems kind of scary to me. -
Well, MRCoon, then you and I will have to agree to disagree. :D
I did post suggestions for his ad in an earlier post. But as a thread ebbs and flows, then the conversation is going to ebb and flow with it. I do expect that the things I learn about others and that others learn about me will enter into a BB coversation just as they do in real time. Your comments themselves could be used as an example to that.
I still think that Mr. Anderson needs to come back into the discussion that he started. -
Blessed are the Peacemakers!!! ;) :D
-
There is nothing mean-sprited about discussing Mr. Anderson's ad, since that seems to be why he posted it in the first place.
I agree with bitsy, why on earth doesn't Mr. Anderson come and discuss these things. If he is so sure of what he believes he ought to be able to articulate his postions defensivly and give adequate scriptural support to his claims. He has just been a "dirve by poster". -
-
MRCoon, I can see what you are saying to a degree about peacemakers, but in this case, (and I know I am beginning to sound like a broken record in these "essay" threads), as one (an IFB)who has been down the road of hyperfundamentalism/pastoral authoritarianism, someone has to sound the alarm here. The warning signs are all there, and THEN some. This is too serious to ignore. MAYBE if enough of us speak up, he will go back and open his Bible and rethink his ways. maybe.....
-
Ok back on topic, Advertisements are meant to draw in a certain specific customer and if this is the Believer he wants to attract it is a perfect Ad for that. If he wants to be more affective I would say that you can tone down the rhetoric without compromising your standards or beliefs.
Jesus always preached the same message of salvation...some people had to be condemned and some had to be cajolled but all where called to Christ. -
I agree that the ad will be effective in drawing the kind of "clientele" the pastor is seeking.
