I have heard that the 1860's YOUNG'S LITERAL TRANSLATION by Robert Young, the author of
Young's ANALYTICAL CONCORDANCE, is back in print.
Here are a few sample renderings from
YLT compared to the KJV:
Exod. 15:3
The LORD is a man of war: the LORD is his name (KJV)
Jehovah is a man of battle; Jehovah is His name (YLT)
Deut. 28:67
Would God it were even (KJV)
O that it were evening (YLT)
2 Samuel 16:16c
God save the king (KJV)
Let the king live (YLT)
Job 20:24
bow of steel (KJV)
bow of brass (YLT)
Song of Solomon 8:6c
vehement flame (KJV)
flame of Jah (YLT)
Isa. 14:12
O Lucifer (KJV)
O shining one (YLT) -
Never cared that much for Young's.
Did note in my mind, though, that as literacy rates grew, a number of new translations (Webster had one, too) came BEFORE Wescott/Hort and the MAJOR revisions of the RSV and AV1901. They saw the need for a readable Bible for the common man.
