    No. Giving aid and comfort to our anti-Communist allies in Central America who the Democrats wouldn't lift a finger to help.

    But that, in North's estimation, meant we had to hand over weapons to the Iranians, who were our sworn enemies.

    Disloyal and crooked.

    And it went to no good. The Sandanistas fell by ballot, not by bullets.

    No thanks to the Democrats. The Democrats were unwilling to put any pressure on the Communists in Central America during the 1980s. It was sad really to see the party of Harry Truman, John F. Kennedy, and Scoop Jackson wimp out in opposing Communism in our own hemisphere.

    Well, yes, thanks to the democrats. We gave them a little time, and they fixed the problem themselves. That's what democracy is supposed to do.

    Sometimes, restraint is a good tactic. Not doing the wrong thing is as critical as doing the right thing. In this case, restraint was more effective than intervention would have been.
