The Democrats were unwilling to put any pressure on the Communists in Central America during the 1980s.
It was sad really to see the party of Harry Truman, John F. Kennedy, and Scoop Jackson wimp out in opposing Communism in our own hemisphere.

Sometimes, restraint is a good tactic.
Not doing the wrong thing is as critical as doing the right thing.
In this case, restraint was more effective than intervention would have been.
