Irenaeus
People may know that Irenaeus, one of the earliest Church Fathers, proposed a theory of Recapitulation, whereby many of the matters of the Old Testament re-appear in the New. For example, Christ is the new Israel (Matthew 2:15). Some of his ideas work quite well, but he sometimes went too far. Can we see the origins of Mariolatry in this extract?
Mary the Virgin is found obedient, saying, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to your word. Luke 1:38 But Eve was... -
Saved Without Knowing the Resurrection?
In a class I discussed the Gospel and urged the students to make sure the resurrection of Christ was always part of their Gospel presentations/evangelism, because that doctrine/event is clearly part of Paul's Gospel in 1 Corinthians 15. Again, in the book of Acts the resurrection of Christ was part of the Gospel presentations recorded there.
Then I was asked by a student, "Can a person be saved without knowing about the resurrection?" I'm not sure I gave a sufficient answer. What would... -
John 11:47–53
John 11:47–53 Therefore the chief priests and the Pharisees convened a council, and were saying, “What are we doing? For this man is performing many signs. If we let Him go on like this, all men will believe in Him, and the Romans will come and take away both our place and our nation.”
But one of them, Caiaphas, who was high priest that year, said to them, “You know nothing at all, nor do you take into account that it is expedient for you that one man die for the people, and that the... -
Not open theism.
The eternal Son of God has as the Creator deliberatly limited some of His omnisciece.
John 1:18, ". . . No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him. . . ."
Genesis 22:12, ". . . for now I know that thou fearest God, . . ."
Acts of the Apostles 1:7, ". . . And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power. . . ."

Eternity and Time
ETERNITY AND TIME
To have a true Biblical understanding of salvation, we have to recognize that salvation involves both immanent (inherent, present) realities in the eternal mind of God, Whose mind never changes, as well as transient acts that take place in time according to God’s sovereign purpose and will (Ephesians 1:11). The salvation of sinners by the grace of God in Christ, based on His redeeming work in time to satisfy God’s justice for their sins, and to establish righteousness for... -
IT IS FINISHED!
John 19: 30 When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.
Simple question or is it?... What was finished?... Brother Glen -
The Classic View (just a summary)
I am posting this as some have asked the difference between traditional Christian faith and the Penal Substitution Theory of Atonement.
This is just a summary (not detailed).
God, through Christ, created the heavens and the earth, and all that is in them. God created man in His own image and gave them dominion over the earth. God formed man of the dust form the ground and breathed into him life. God planted a garden towards the east, in Eden, and there He placed the man whom He had... -
The Garden
Genesis 2:7–8 Then the Lord God formed man of dust from the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being. The Lord God planted a garden toward the east, in Eden; and there He placed the man whom He had formed.
Genesis 2:9 Out of the ground the Lord God caused to grow every tree that is pleasing to the sight and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
Genesis 2:15 Then the... -
Upright or not?

Was Adam created in the Garden?
In another thread an issue was brought up in a conversation with @DaveXR650 . I had made a comment that Adam was created and then put into the Garden.
I was unaware that this was controversial, much less debatable.
Many may find this topic meaningless. I disagree. Partly because of Scripture and partly because it speaks to our understanding of man.
Let's look at God's Word:
Adam created and placed in the Garden:
Genesis 2:7–8 Then the Lord God formed man of dust from the ground,...
