What does AGAPE love look like?
Most call it God's Love.
So, how do you define the word that will fit consistent in scripture without having to change the words?
How do works factor into Agape? -
Raiding Other Denomination Message Boards
Because of the numerous threads as of late on the RCC, it has been alleged or come to light that some on this board go to Catholic boards to disrupt the forum. I was actually surprised to hear this, as it has never entered my mind.
This is a Baptist forum to discuss Baptist theology. The moderators give some leeway in discussing other faiths, but not to the degree of taking over and destroying the forum. As DHK has said, it is a priviledge to post here, not a right.
My question is,... -
Dead Faith as taught by the Apostle James
DHK or any others that believe like DHK;
There are those here who believe and teach that James speaks of a dead faith for people who are already Christians, and not about a faith someone needs when they want to be saved. However, why would you believe that James is speaking about a dead faith BEFORE one is a Christian when James says, “Can such faith save him?” That scripture is proof that it is about becoming saved and staying saved.
James says faith without deeds is useless, James... -
How do Catholics obey Jesus concerning Matthew 23:9?
How do Catholics obey this command of Jesus?
Matthew 23:9 And do not call anyone on earth 'father,' for you have one Father, and he is in heaven.
I will tell you how I obey that command. I obey by not calling any Christian brother a ‘father.’
Now please tell me how you obey Jesus’ command in Matthew 23:9.
The question is a serious one that I really want to know. -
When is sin a sin
In a recent thread, there were those who considered sin to only be applicable if manifested by an act.
Jesus said that if a man look upon a woman to lust after her, he has committed adultry already...
Is the biblical standard that the actual act has to be carried out, or are those acts carried out because one is already constructed and committed the sin in the lust of the flesh, eyes, heart, and pride of life?
Can the thought life itself be sinful and never manifest itself in overt... -
The post 911 world AND God's judgment
Recently I was recommended to purchase a book tying Ezekiel to Bible prophecy and tying all of the things that have happened in america since 911 as being God's judgment. Did any of you know that the current heat wave is the highest on record? Did any of you know that homosexuality has exploded since 911? Do any of you know that the economy has taken the tank since 911? And so on, and so forth.. I am not interested in debates with non Dispensationalist so please those of you whom do not like... -
Mary Sightings in History
There is a long line of stories about how people have seen Mary in spiritual form throughout the years. The people who saw her were quite excited about the experience for some reason. This is a hypothetical question, as I do not believe human souls roam the earth. When one dies, they either go into the presence of the Lord (Paradise) or to Hades to await judgement.
My question is, if one was really to see Mary, what good would it do an individual? It seems to be it would be just... -
God's existence
On a now closed thread, the last post was the following...
I'm glad you said this about the saying that "God lives outside of time." Agree totally. It should not be overlooked by us that this way of describing God is not found in Scripture. And if God - in the only book we have that tells about Himself - chooses not to describe Himself this way, and often chooses to use time statements, maybe we should do likewise.
To argue to someone that "God is outside of time" is to invite one of... -
RCC Missionaries in South America
A few years ago, we had a Southern Baptist missionary from remote sections of South America come and give a presentation to our church. He related that one of the main problems was that the Catholic Church had such a strong hold on the local population in remote areas, that it was almost impossible to share the Gospel.
Not only did the Catholic missionaries spread their warped view of the Gospel and Scripture, they would compromise with the local population and incorporate into the... -
How do Baptists view I Pet 3:21
This is where we talk about the verse which is oft-cited by proponents of baptismal regeneration as support for their view. The first part, on a Plain Reading(TM) of Scripture, seems clear enough: "And this water symbolizes baptism, which now saves you". But is it so unequivocal? And what does the second part of the verse, that bit about the "pledge of a good conscience" mean?
I'd be interested to see how (credo-) Baptists interpret this verse?
