I thought so also Tiny... I think he gave hope and extended his hand by offering to discuss our differences so we can find common ground. I was also encouraged by his passion to stop the reasons so many feel they need abortions. If we can stop the reasons people feel they need an abortion we can stop abortion. We can also save fetuses by making sure viable alternatives to abortion are readily available and encouraged from high places.

I am surprised to see so many closed minds that don't realize even if we never achieve total victory, one baby not aborted or one embryo saved from the trash can is success and God will be pleased.

I don't see "all or nothing" or "my way or no way" as realistically working to achieving progress in this land of varying views.

You make one good point, but you are willing to meet Obama further than we ought to be, IMO.

I will agree to one point: we should take victories where we can get them (parental consent, for example)...just because that will save lives: not all of them, but some.

However, "stopping the reasons" will not stop abortion. People are not basically good. Abortions will happen--often--until they are legalized. There's no sense pretending that's not true.

That is not what he said today in his speech so why can't he be given a chance to back up his words or prove himself a liar? He in fact said the opposite of what you just said but he did ask if we can use "fair minded" words when we discuss the issue. I think that is fair...

Thanks RBell but I can say it best this way, in the absence of absolute victory, some victory reigns supreme. Some of you remind me of a friend who is discouraged because he doesn't have a mega Church. I am grateful to have A Church.

There are two real ways to stop abortions, take away the reason for abortions and brining everyone in the world to Christ. Making them illegal will have about the same results as President Obama's proposals. It will only slow them down but it will in no way stop them. So that victory is also not a complete victory in the eyes of the unborn.

I will have to respectfully disagree with most of you, I believe one life saved is success. I see it like bringing folks to Christ, I may not be able to bring everyone in the world to Christ, but if I can bring just one I have done a good work.

LB, I am all for working with anyone who wants to decrease the number of abortions, esp. through making adoption easier. But Obama is not trustworthy on this, based on his prior actions and words. He is beholden to the abortion lobby - the Planned Parenthoods of the world. They do not want fewer abortions, because it hits them in the pocketbook. So no one really trusts him on this. But who knows - maybe he is telling the truth this time and is starting to change on this issue. His future actions will tell.

Lastly, even though I would gladly work with someone to reduce abortions, I would still like for them to answer my question above - Why do they want to reduce the number of abortions? Asking that question reveals the inconsistency in their thinking, and maybe it will make them rethink their position.

Baloney. There is no such thing as a half dead baby. There are babies who survive the abortionist's suction curette but even that wasn't good enough for the murderer-in-chief who voted to let survivors suffer and die on dirty laundry heaps. Your premise is completely faulty, grasping at straws, seeking for any straw to soothe your seared conscience. It is a black and white issue and you know it in your heart of hearts. :tear:

The bottom line is that there is no common ground on murder. If we were talking about people murdering their 13 year old children, no one would bring up this common ground stuff.

Either you believe abortion is murder or you don't. If you don't believe that then you can talk common ground all you want...and all you'll be doing is making excuses for the sin in your heart.
