    Anyone use Face Book?

I thought I would start a page, suddenly I have 30 friends, non are Christian.

I have had to delete some stuff already.

I want to reach out but I do not want to dishonor the Lord.

Anyone else having probs with FB?

No. I use Facebook and have everyone blocked except for people I WANT on there.
There are settings where you can make your page unviewable to anyone and where nobody can join unless you send them an invitation. That's how mine is set up.
If you just want people to join that are Christians, you don't have to accept friendships from people who aren't. Just say no when you're asked if you want to accept them on your page.

I agree with Gina. I do have unsaved friends on there - some who I went to school with, some who I know online and numerous people I know in real life. If they post objectionable material, I will voice my opinion about doing so in "public" and if they keep it up, I'll "unfriend" them.

But I love Facebook. It's a great way to keep in touch with people and know what's going on in their lives. It's a fast way to get out the word on things and to just chat. I don't do any of the "applications" (Farmville, bumper stickers, flair, clubs, etc.) so I don't get sucked in OR risk viruses. I just want to know what's going on in people's lives and see their pictures. :)

My wife is on Face Book along with our children and members from several PB Churches. She enjoys it and information and photos are freely passed around amongst us. I don't participate except through her. I have enough fires for the iron already. I believe she has had to do some blocking or defensive measures before.

I am on facebook, so are a lot of my friends from here. There is a group there called, "Friends of the Baptist Board." I would encourage you to join the group if you active here and there. We have 64 group members right now.

I have had very little trouble with inapporpriate material on facebook. I have met many people and reconnected with many old friends. The only real drawback I have found is that I waste a lot of time there playing the games.

I am very active on FB, and have led 3 of my friends to the Lord this yr through FB... One was an old classmate.. that said he knew I was a preacher, and he was lost, and needed saved... I met with him the next week...

Others, saw me online, and started a chat, asking questions...

Others see me online, and IM me, only to ask me to pray for them..

FB, is the most effective witnessing tool right now...

I have defriended people, but only after they have attacked something I have posted time after time... I am not on FB to argue.. I have BB for that!!! LOL

Or I have defriended people if they keep posting vulgar stuff..

I have over 300 friends, divided up into different groups.. BB, School mates, Other pastors, people I have met from pastoring differnt churches...etc...

Our West Virginia Baptist Convention last yr, encouraged all our pastors to sign up for FB.. Now the convention seems a lot closer, because we know what each other is up to. When we had our annual meeting in October, in Lewisburg, WV, we seemed closer, because we were connected throughout the year.

One minister even thanked me for posting things...

FB is a tool.. use it to glorify God. I am constantly finding old friends, who now I am able to share my faith with through FB.. and if it wasn't for FB, I couldn't...

So I love it. Alot more than myspace btw... myspace has too much teeny bopper drama for me!... Facebook is more professional.

I don't know how to block certain people's post from showing up, so the other night I deleted a guy from my friend list. I have a lot of games neighbors/friends, some are apparently not very nice people and this guy was really bad.
A lot of people on my friends list aren't saved it looks like, sometimes I post some christian though usually based on something someone(non christian) has posted. If you see stuff out of nowhere on my facebook thats why, I'm actually responding to others you don't see.
But I ahve met some really good christians on facebook too, one lives a couple of hours from me in my state, we talk all the time on message.

Donna, hiding people's posts is easy.. hover your cursor over the questionable post.. on the right side of the post the word "hide" will appear.. just click on that and Voila... that person's posts will be hidden from you..but they can still see what you post.

I avoid doing anything online that uses my actual name and images. If I decided to go public on something, then I'd make sure it was done with a marketing strategy for a specific targeted purpose.

Facebook, Linked-in, Myspace, and others are probably great for people in Sales or Politics where they want everyone to know their name and face. Try doing a google search on your name and see what all comes up. If someone wanted to learn more about you they could possibly discriminate against you some day based on what you have told the world in a very public way.

Ok, so maybe my view is overly cautious and we shouldn't worry so much.

I once did a bunch of research on google about the dangers of posting your actual face photos online. If you do the same you will see there are plenty of people that advise against putting your actual photo online because someone with Photoshop software can take your face and attach it to someone elses body and post it online. There are rare but apparently true stories of people's kids being found in foreign countries on billboards.

Again, maybe this is overly cautious but its something to be aware of.

I just checked in the mirror and thought " if they put my face and attached it to some other body, how would that be bad"

Well, that's probably the same for me too. Thanks for the laugh! But there are some unmentionable conditions in which I would probably not want to be posted on the internet in a public manner.

I am on Facbook and really enjoy it. I too waste too much time with games (I love farmville!), but I get to stay in contact with so many people that I never get to see or will never get to meet in person (like my many friends here on the BB). I have reconnected with old friends, as well as linked up with people from other discussion boards (like the one I admin) and from my gaming clan.

Incidentally, I just sent friend invitations to everyone in the "Friends of the BaptistBoard" that I didn't already have as friends, so if you see my invite (you'll know me by my last name), add me. :D

And Tim is right... FB can be a great tool for witnessing.

I have been on FB for a year and a half. Most of my friends are high school classmates. There are several members of my church on FB; I even talked my wife into getting her a page. I have also reunited with many of the summer staff from Ridgecrest back in '92l.

I have a lot of high school peers. college peers, former co workers, current and past church peeps, and children who are now adults that I have worked with. The world is really small.

Oh, and of course, there are the Baptist Board Peeps. Tiny Tim is a trip.
