Reaching people for Christ- The Way of the Master with Ray Comfort

There are so many LOST people in our neighborhoods, and so many churches (like mine) that do not give a rat about reaching them. Speaking with a leader in my church recently he told me that he sees no "fruit" in street evangelism, and so will not endorse it in the class. This man has not read his Bible, and I am so sad so many Christians are like this. People lets make a difference and reach our own communities for the gospel.

Think that the Lord can bless that type of outreach, but the persons in it need to know they have been called and blessed to be doing it!

You have spoken the truth wisely my friend. Its very easy to let peer pressure get to you and fall back. I hate going out alone but its my only option. I am in a Fundamentalist Church (Liberty University is not Fundamentalist) and IFB often reject The Way of the Master, so I am alone. Oh well I hate being alone, but it appears I stand all by myself. Its either I compromise separation and go to one of these other churches, or I stick to the Bible. I have chosen to stick with the Bible, but at the cost of no fellowship in street evangelism efforts. http://www.baptistboard.com/showthread.php?t=72308

I would like to weigh in on this matter of street evangelism. I don't know if it bears fruit or not. I don't recall anyone reporting that anyone was saved during a street evangelism. (I am assuming that street evangelism is the same as street preaching....like standing on a street corner or in a public square. If I am wrong, please correct me.) What I have seen is people ignoring the street preachers and walk past them, and I have seen some people heckle them.

I don't condemn street evangelism. However, it doesn't set well with me when someone condemns a pastor or Christian for not using street preaching as a method of evangelism. Frankly, I never have and have no plans to do so. Yet, I evangelize. Isn't that the main thing? As Christians, we are all supposed to evangelize.

What method of evangelism we use is irrelevant as far as I am concerned. If street preaching is your strong suit, use it, but don't condemn those who choose some other method.

Um, John, you're doing it again. It's not your place to judge whether or not your church leader has "read his Bible" simply because he disagrees with you about a certain METHOD of evangelism. Again, this comes across as a better-than-thou attitude whether you meant it that way or not. Tact is your friend, especially if you plan to use street evangelism as your way of representing Christ.

Maybe your church leader has already tried this method and it didn't work for him. Maybe the culture in your area requires a different evangelistic approach. I appreciate your zeal for the lost; that is commendable. But as dh1948 advised, do not condemn those who use other methods. Dude, you're on the same team! YOUR way is not the ONLY way. Use whatever works! By all means, win some. . .not just by ONE means, brother.

Now, (I say this in sisterly love here) shut yer yap and listen and learn from your leaders, and pray about how you can effectively team up with them for the cause of Christ. :smilewinkgrin:

I'm curious. When you say that you are following your leaders, who do you mean? The leaders in your church (including the one you say doesn't read his Bible?), or the Way of the Master people?

Law for the proud and grace to the humble is not a method its a principle to Biblical evangelism. Yes in some contexts we need to present this in relationships. Open air preaching was practiced by Philip and the disciples in the book of Acts. No it was not called "street preaching" but it was open air preaching.

Is there something within the doctrine of your church to prevent you from following your calling and preaching where/when God leads you to stand on a street corner?

It is wrong to say that others don't read their Bible, because they don't share your calling or give the degree of support of your calling that YOU think you should have. Our Lord didn't call me to be a street preacher. Because I don't stand on street corners, you are saying that I don't read my Bible nor understand "evangelism". Because our church focus is on other ways to bring the lost to Christ, you are saying my church doesn't read the Bible or understand "evangelism", either.

BTW, how often do you follow your calling, regardless of what others may think or do?
