The movie made from the book written by Bill O'Reilly. I watched the first 50 minutes tonight for curiosity sake. I was not disappointed. O'Reilly is out of his league in Christian Theology and history. He made Jesus look like an Open Theist and misrepresented much of the historical accounts in scripture. I stopped watching when he made Jesus out to be the leader of a mob revenging the arrest of John the Baptist. He does what Rick Warren would do and mixes scripture out of context to make a point. My suggestion is if you were considering watching or even reading this story, don't waste your time. O'Reilly needs to stick with politics.

Really? You had to bring Warren into it? Pretty slick.

Sorry you had to see first hand, Rick, that this was a poor representation of the Bible World View of Christ. The problem is, many will like it. For instance, Dr. Robert Jeffress of First Baptist of Dallas, who loved the book, is looking forward to seeing the movie, because he loved the clips!

True, he has yet to speak about how he felt about the movie after watching it its entirety, and that will be interesting to hear. Nevertheless, on Fox News, he "saw no problem showing it to churches!"

    http://www.firstdallas.org/featured-news/dr-jeffress-on-the-oreilly-factor-32715/

I have chosen not to view it, because from what I have heard about the book, it does not interest me, in that it does not follow the Bible, and it was written by a Catholic, to boot! Nothing against Bill, but many Catholics are way to liberal when it comes to the Bible, especially the Biblical World View!

Now, Rick, go and take a cold bath and say fifty hail Mary's. ....

How in the world does Rick Warren get into this?

Seriously man, if you've got a gripe against a brother in Christ you are commanded to air it to him...not sideswipe in internet forums.

I wouldn't watch this tripe if I was paid by a network.

I guess your narrative would also mean if Rick has a problem with Obama, Holder, Biden, Bush, O'Reilly, or you, he should try get an audience with that person and talk them? That may work, but honestly, PIJ, do you think that Rick Warren is going to give this brother an audience?

I highly doubt that any of these men, with the exception of you, would give Rick the time of day! Besides, there are many on this board who have "swiped" at RW, and does it really hurt RW? I highly doubt if RW so much as spends any time on this board, and if he did, he'd laugh at those who do not agree with him.

I know what you are saying, brother, and in most cases it is the only way to handle a disagreement. However, this was not that big a deal. NOt any more of a deal that drinking a beer or glass of wine, or mixed drink has upon one's witness, Right?

O'Reilly is an authoritarian figure on theology and presents sort of a watered down Catholicism. He has endorsed same-sex marriage, TM (ruled a religion by a New Jersey federal court) for poor black males, said that Jesus had no siblings but was raised in a communal setting, and allowed Kelsey Grammer to say that he was a gentile playing a Jewish King Herod when King Herod was an Edomite, not a Jew.

Bill O'Reilly just gets shrill when he is out of his league and he is out of his league on theology because he has never read a systematic theology in his life. He looks like a nut when he tries to discuss the subject. His book is not about religion but $$$$$.

What gets me is, here my wife (a new Christian) wants to see this O'Reilly flick thinking she could learn something & so we are both on the couch watching this .....she even marked our calendars for it! We both agreed to shut it off after 9:30 pm. This morning I asked her what she thought & even she (as a new christian) could see past it....thought it was a piece of garbage. Thank God for discernment.

    This is woefully misguided.

You need to remember that Rick Warren is a person, with a ministry. Moreover, he is a person with family, and extended family, and friends throughout the nation.

Taking swipes and people on an internet forum takes your gripes worldwide. Posts at BaptistBoard are indexed by search engines and show up in searches as results. Try it yourself. I just did and even this thread came up.

As someone who has had friends and relatives in the national spotlight - many of whom were not seeking it but found themselves in it because of their profession - it pains me to see unfair, untrue, and sometimes hostile comments about people I care about. If it bothers me, how much do you think it bothers God?

I am not a fan of Rick Warren and I have some concerns about the way he has used various translations of scripture and quotes from notable people in The Purpose-Driven Life, but that doesn't give me free reign to beat on him at every opportunity. If someone wants to have a discuss of Rick Warren, then start a thread about it and present areas of concern in a respectful way. (That's been done many, many times.) Don't just keep taking shots at the man.

If you believe it is a major issue, contact Warren's organization and present your concerns. Most people actually read their e-mail if it is presented in a respectful way.

Why do we owe people like O'Reilly an e-mail (which I have done) when they consistently misrepresent the truth. For example, O'Reilly actually donates money so that inner-city youth are taught Hindu TM as if he does not have the time and money to realize what TM is.

I do believe that is the case. It seems to me the Bible doesn't care for such distinctions as celebrity but opts that is someone has a continual gripe with a brother in Christ they are obligated to seek that person out and find some solution. Otherwise, continually dragging the other person into arguments and targeting them is sin.

If Sola was serious he would travel to California and ask for a meeting with Rick to discuss their differences. Otherwise, talking about him and criticizing him as Sola has done is sin.

This isn't about what you and I doubt or think...this is about what the Bible commands us regarding our brother in Christ.

Sola has a pattern of disparaging Rick Warren, who is a good Christian and pastor in good standing, in this forum. His constant attacks are sinful. He needs to resolve that issue, or stop bringing up Pastor Warren.

Nobody of any discernment theologically takes O'Rielly seriously. Its the people struggling with understanding Biblical based Christianity who might get hurt if they buy into his convoluted nonsense. When I first was regenerated I spent a lot of time in the bible & also read books by people I was fairly certain were theologically sound....people like George Whitefield, Martyn Lloyd Jones, James Montgomery Boyce, etc. I first used some Westminster Confessions ( later the Baptist 1689 Confessions of Faith ) to help ground me & seer me. Honestly even some of these debates helped formulate a clearer understanding.....and bible study! and after 6 years I know Ive only scratched the surface.

Anyway, I'm just wondering what theological underpinnings Billy O has & what makes him think he is a person of magnitude in the Christian Faith? Does going to mass on Sunday make you an authority on Christ & the Christian Faith? What was his motivation for writing this book & doing this movie?

Pastor Warren is on the internet big time, as well as Bill O'Reilly so I think that the internet is a proper place to reply to them.

Maybe O'Reilly listens while he is at Church. Many former Catholics never listen to the Bible being read at Mass, a Mass to be held must have the Bible and that Holy Bible is being read continuously 24/7 throughout the Whole World / Universal or Greek for "Catholic".
I have never witness more misunderstanding of His Church than from those who convert into other churches, and the sad thing is they really believe a mere man or woman discovered many centuries later that which Jesus overlooked . To think and evangelize that that one Church that Jesus founded on His apostles would fall into apostasy is like saying that Jesus has not enough Authority and Power to protect His Church from such apostasy. But of course true interpreter Bible Christians believe that Jesus could never make such a mistake as that. Same reasoning applies for God's Bible, those that follow that same "One True Interpretation" used by those that placed the correct Books, apart from the maze of writings back then, understood it was necessary for compiling Holy Bible. Think about it. We all accept the Books of the Holy Bible [ especially the NT ] but you deny it's proper "one" interpretation that gave us inerrant Holy Scripture.

You cant be suggesting that the one true church is Roman Catholic & that that piece of crud O'Reilly is peddling is even remotely related to RC Teaching. What you have in reality is Theistic rendering & that in no way, shape & form even comes close to the RCC teaching or any Orthodox teaching of Bible.

OK. Tell me what I've misunderstood. In fact, if BaptistBoard has a formal debate section, contact a mod, arrange a debate, and I'll be happy to meet you there.

First of all, Jesus did not found the Catholic Church. the Catholic Church as we know it did not even begin until the 4th century. And that's not to mention the split(s) that occurred in 1054.

Second, the fact that the Reformation occurred shows that God did not allow His Church to fall into apostasy.

Third, why not evangelize lost Catholics? Would you rather they go to Hell?

    Bovine skubulon.

Because, as a Catholic, anything he says about Jesus is going to be filtered through the lens of his wicked and Ungodly cult.

O'Reilly is a cafeteria Catholic--he goes down the line but only picks out the things that he likes. He does not like that marriage is one-man-one-woman so O'Reilly endorses sodomite marriage. He says that he understands theology but does not know that King Herod was an Edomite, not a Jew. He says that he donates money to teach the religion of TM to teenage boys in the New York City slums. He says that Scripture is inaccurate in portraying the historical trial and execution of Jesus so that he has to correct Scripture with his book. He went off on one e-mail that challenged the RC view that Jesus had no siblings.

Cafeteria--take what you like, leave the rest.

CH Spurgeon says that discernment is not the ability to tell right from wrong, but the ability to tell right from almost right. :wavey:
