In the last film Captain America (Steve Rogers) promoted monotheism while all the other characters pluralism and pantheism. In this new film Captain America this time advocates for ethical moralism by rebuking Tony Stark for his bad language earlier in the film. Unfortunately Captain America says one cuss word in the film but small in comparison to the others and even myself. I am amazed that a unbeliever with a moralistic background could outdo a Christian but that's only in the natural realm.

    Any thoughts on this topic?

my thoughts are that it grieves God that Christians are watching these movies..

Ps 101:3 I will set NO wicked thing before mine eyes.

    No means none.

If it has one cuss word in it, then a Christian has no business watching it.

Jordan - The English major / tech writer / language lover in me likes to read things like this. It always brings up a question:

Who determined what words were cuss words? There are words used in the Bible that many people would be upset if their children said. But who made the decision that those words were bad?

What if it's a word used in another language that means something bad, but when used in English does not carry the same connotation?

As an aside, when I was a kid each of our desks in school came with a dictionary. I still remember sitting in the back of the room with my friends Harvey and Tommy looking in the dictionary for the "naughty" words and giggling because the dictionary said "ass".

There were other words that I won't bore you with, that, of course, had no profane meaning, but were very amusing to a nine year old.

That's why I prefer to consider the meaning, tone, and context of a word, rather than just have a static list of forbidden words.

Good Grief there has been no pluralism, pantheism, or anything else. There is not a boogy man under every rock. Its a movie move on.

These guys are basically gods says a character. More than one God existing is pluralism.

You need to learn to understand hyperbole. Taking a single statement and creating a boogie man out of it is not helpful. No one worshiped them nor did anyone suggest anyone too.

So your claim of pluralism is shot.

Why are we surprised when the world acts like the world?

I agree with Revmitchell - these are just movies. It would be different if they were presented as reality (actual worshiping gods....which, now that I think of it, isn't actually what the characters are presented as being). What I find more concerning are "Christian" movies that are more in line with these fantasy flicks (the growing acceptance of Christian themed fantasy). It is amazing how many get their history from movies....I think the method is beginning to translate to religion. :tear:

Read it from scripture, no problem. Say it without scripture; is it a sin?

    Oh my.

I advise EVERYBODY--DO NOT READ Ezekiel 23, esp. in the NIV.

(And you thought Song of Solomon was racy...)

At the end of the second film they are featured as statues in the credits. That's worship.

Let's not start this foolishness John. You asked for comments and I offered mine. In and of itself I see no issue with the genre as it is fiction.

Jon the problem is he is incapable of having a discussion with anyone who does not agree with him. So he resorts to this. Engaging him on most anything is similar to throwing pearls before swine. It is wasted on inability to reason.

My apologies. I do not see what Jordan's issue is, but to each his own.

    Jordan..

There is nothing wrong with your position. However remember that God created people and there is nothing wrong with pleasure and entertainment as long as its under control and does not control us. God did not create us as monks devoid of any pleasure or entertainment, and in my case and my convictions I see nothing wrong with watching this film, and in fact I plan to see it for the second time tonight. But your position is okay and nothing wrong with it.
