When I read/heard about this, at first I thought it was some kind of prank. So I went on-line and found this story to be a fact, and a sad one to boot.

Sure it may have been a little too much, especially with the Charleston killings, and should have been put on hold for another day; but it was on their schedule, and not something they just decided to have.

So, I have to wonder, out loud, and ask why should this is offensive? After all, don't all major league teams as well as other groups and organizations, hold promotional events that feature certain heritages? For instance, this weekend in LA, the Dodgers were hosting an "LGBT night at the Park." Plus, monthly they host a "Viva Los Dodgers" night. And while I'm talking about special event nights for promotional purposes in the NFL, NBA and MLB, unless I'm mistaken, television and actors guilds even have special awards and nights that promote certain racial heritage skills in entertainment, with awards presented?

I don't find any of these special nights or award shows offensive, so why should it offend others. I believe that if they don't like that nights particular promotion, just don't go! That is how I'd handle the LGBT night in LA. I do not hate gays, but because I don't agree with their chosen lifestyle, I'd not attend that designated event or night! End of the story!! No dust kicked up, or feelings hurt!

Personally, if this night was canceled because it was offensive, then any night designated for a certain group or race, should also be moved from the calendar in an effort to level the playing field!

I have to wonder if I am the only one that feels this way? More important, was it right or wrong to cancel this special promotional night at the ballpark? :flower:

It was just a tongue-in-cheek little get together. In light of recent events, they should have cancelled it.

You know as well as I do why we as white people have no heritage and cannot be publicly seen as being proud of anything accomplished by white people.

    It is what it is.

The color of one's skin has nothing to do with anything except the amount of melanin in one's skin pigment. This shows up as coloration from black to white and many shades in between. The Caucausoids seem to think they are better than the Negroids and the Mongoloids.

There is no such thing as a pure sub-race anyway. The gene pools are mixed all the way back to the Flood. Everything on the planet came from the loins of Noah--not far removed from the gene pool from the first man-Adam.

The race of humans comes in many flavors. The problem comes in with the fallen nature of the Adamic race. We are totally depraved-- by nature.

Sub-human concepts have been around since before Darwin. Neo-Darwin has not changed the problem.

Satan is alive and well on planet earth.

    Even so, come, Lord Jesus.

Unfortunately, I'm not allowed to say here what I think they are for cancelling the event. If blacks and Mexicans and homosexuals can have their own things, why shouldn't we?

Next time you're in New Jersey, spend a day in Camden and then spend a day in Haddonfield and then tell us there's no difference.

Spot on! :jesus: Double standard is sickening in our country and people should be more assertive and call them out.

Is that supposed to be some sort of fundamental difference? (Which seemed to be James' point).

Man has built a whole lot of artificial "differences" around skin color; such as "culture", and when you have a dominant group, the overall culture will reflect that dominant influence. So others then will be distinguished.

In actuality, "white" groups DO have “pride” celebrations that are NOT accused of racism, and those are the ethnic sub-groups they all are apart of. So the Irish celebrate. The Italians have celebrations, including Columbus day (which is also about America too). And other groups have other expressions.

The problem is comparing “white” to “black, and saying “if ‘black’ can have its pride, why can’t ‘white’?”
But what you're calling black has all been compressed into a SINGLE GROUP (having lost their individual African national identities. Very few know which African nation they are from. The only ethnic subdivisions are West Indian countries, and people newly from Africa).

So “black” is one group next to the Irish, Italians, English, etc.

As has been pointed out, when people make “white” an individual category like that, it’s usually to pit the entire race against others, so again, that’s why it gets suspected.

In other words, if you want a "white" celebration, which particular sub-group would it be, since whites in Amerca comprise many ancestral nationalities, including mixtures?

All of those other groups are minorities, or otherwise historically denigrated people. Caucasians have had the upper hand for the last 600 years or so. We enslaved black people for centuries. Put them down, used and abused them. Is it any wonder why we became the dominant race?

And here someone wants to celebrate White Caucasian Month? And you wonder why it's inappropriate?

Supposing history were reversed. Supposing in the 1400's black explorers from Africa came to Europe and enslaved and killed white people, sent them to China to work in the rice paddies or to Africa to mine minerals, or used them as household servants. Basically colonized and plundered Europe. Then forced white people to adopt their religions. Made them talk and act like them, wear their clothes.

After centuries of this treatment, whites were able to slowly make gains toward equality, finally get some recognition that yes, they too, have made some positive contributions to society. Then here comes the black majority saying, "you are going too far with this acknowledgment of your successes and your achievements. Let's not forget about us black people. We're going to have a month where WE get recognized for all we've done!"

Do you not see the ridiculousness of that?

Yes, Camden and Haddonfield are very much fundamentally different.

Most white people are not Italians. What's more, "Italian" is not the same as white.

Your profile says you're from New York City, so I understand the mental difficulties you must be having with this.

But try to think. Why does it have to be a sub group? Why don't you hold blacks to the same standard? Blacks have no problem excluding white South African people, thus showing that it is about skin color and culture. Why can't we have the same? Why the hypocrisy? Why can't we say, "If you're descended from white Europeans, welcome aboard"?

Beyond that, if white people want to celebrate their Irish, English, Norse, Dutch heritage, etc, then they should be able to.

Yes. We're still waiting for you to tell us why it's inappropriate.

Nobody's saying black people shouldn't be proud of their accomplishments, assuming somebody can find one.

We're saying we should have the same opportunity to be proud of ours, and to associate with who we want to associate, just as they do.

And yet, you still clicked on it to see that I was responding to you and then went through the trouble of telling me you're ignoring me.

Perhaps you're not understanding what it means to "ignore" someone.

Based on the animosity shown by a few posters toward another few posters, I strongly and humbly recommend that this feature (ignore list) be used far more than it apparently is at present!

From personal experience it keeps the BP in check; but then if you are the confrontational type, well ------!!
