I'm sorry, but that seems to be an entirely different question than your first question. Spreading the Gospel and counseling others with how to cope with sinful impulses would garner somewhat different responses from me.
Now, if this line of questioning is leading to you asking if I believe that a Christian can have homosexual desires, than my answer is yes.
You are heading down the wrong road if you think there is any way to counsel a homosexual to have a comparable relationship to that which is offered to a single heterosexual. The fact is that same-sex romantic relationships are sinful. Sometimes you just have to tell a person "no". Rob is correct. Christians can have same-sex attraction. The sin is not in the attraction, it is acting on the attraction. You can counsel a person who struggles in that area to trust God or reach out to a trusted friend for support in times of weakness, but you cannot inoculate them from the temptation itself.
I've never been to a church service where we celebrate adultery, lying, stealing and greed.
When a church claims to be inclusive that means we accept their sin.
As Matt Chandler says, homosexuals need to be in church.
At my church, we believe the same, but we would never extend church membership to them.
Membership requires that you believe the bible and the tenants of the church.
However, there is no situation in which we are called to scream epithets at them.
You can disagree as much as you want, but the Bible is completely clear.
BTW I did see your article by Wayne Grudem.
Thanks.
I'm not sure I see it the way you do. But I will admit, that they all seem to be talking past each and getting lost in minutia.
Yeah as keep in mind. It is called agree to disagree. And as God's children and believers, to kill people with kindness and His love. Regardless of sex, color, creed, gender, etc.
Matt, I think the preclusion from membership is directed towards practicing, and unrepentant, homosexuals. If there was a practicing, and unrepentant, adulterer, they would be precluded from membership in my church. This is one of the reasons church discipline exists. If someone who was once sexually immoral goes back into that lifestyle, there are ecclesiastical measures to deal with that sin. For that reason alone I doubt that you will find many practicing sexually immoral individuals wanting to join a bible believing church.
Yes. All of the talk of the celibate Christian with homosexual feelings is only put forth to distract from the real issue: churches condoning homosexual relationships and marriages.
