Al Franken is Jewish. To him it is not blasphemy. But this is misdirection - I am not discussing Al Franken - you introduced him into the discussion.
Please show me where I ever made this statement, or point us to a comment where I made such an implication.
Remember: it was YOU who introduced Al Franken into the conversation.
I am discussing Ann Coulter.
If you would like to debate this topic, that is fine. But don't start making unfounded observations about my thoughts/feelings/beliefs. I have never professed a hatred for Ann Coulter, and you know it. Please stick to the topic of discussion and refrain from making statements that simply are not true. This is an arena for debate, not a forum to bear false witness.
That being said, since you have read it, then you are aware of what she was saying and why she was saying it. She made it very clear that the reason she liked wishing someone a Merry Christmas was tantamount to saying the other phrase. In other words, the two statements achieve precisely the same result. Of all the phrases she could have utilized, she chose that one. Remember: this is the author of Godless.
She said it was "fun," didn't she?
I think you've misrepresented what she said enough times, so no, I won't. You are either bearing false witness against her, or her joke went way over yer head. Either way, Ann doesn't need me to defend her, and your mind is made up.
And Supply Side Jesus is blasphemy. Funny yer
not as offended by that as you are the words of Ann. I was sick when you posted it, like I was when I visted the atheists at infidels . org.
Ann Coulter is a firebrand -- hated by some, loved by others.
While I don't agree with everything she says or the way she says it, she does something that most other Conservatives (and Christian leaders for that matter) DON'T do.
She confronts egocentric, elitist liberals with their own hypocrisy and lies.
She exposes their evil agenda and hits them where it hurts.
If anyone (Al Mohler included) fault her for that, then they are being foolish and naive.
Mohler is confrontational on many issues we as Christians face in culture.
I think that's great too.
That Al condemns Ann, however, is just putting unnecessary blood in the water for the liberals to attack both of them and cultural conservatives as a group.
It's one thing to condemn something Ann says that "went too far" or was crass and inappropriate.
DON'T condemn Ann and her work, however.
That's throwing out the baby with the bathwater, and it does NOT serve the cause of Christ either in the Church or in the culture God has made us a part of.
Just why does it disservice the cause of Christ to point out that Ann Coulter and her "work" is a bunch of useless tripe? She is no more of a Christian example than Westboro Baptist Church. Political conservative does not a Christian make. Talk about foolish and naive JD.
(And no I am not fond of Franken either, although I can stomach that "fouled mouth bitter washed up writer of a man" better than the fouled mouth crass, rude, irreverant joke of a woman.)
I don't THINK I said that Ann Coulter = "Christian." I don't THINK I approved of her harsh and inappropriate rhetoric. I don't even think I said that "conservative" = "Christian." In short, DON'T put words in my mouth.
I CAN, however, conclude that anyone who can "stomach" that leftist, warped, vulgar, washed-up comedian/writer Al Franken while condemning Ann Coulter has some serious issues with balance and understanding simple cultural and moral issues from a Biblical perspective.
I apologize for misinterpreting your post it happens. However, IF you don't want people to assume you mean conservative = Christian, THEN I believe you should reconsider how your post came accross. Technically you put the words in your mouth, intentionally or not.
Now, as for stomaching Franken, perhaps you should re-read my post, for you are now doing the very thing of which you accuse me. I said I am NOT a fan of Franken. I did say I could I could stomach him better than Coulter, but considering I cannot stomach her at all that does not mean much. I DON'T like either of them. You should really pull the beam from your own eye before accusing a fellow sister in Christ of having "serious issues with balance and understanding of cultural and moral issues from a Biblical perspective". Pretty harsh condemnation for someone you have never even met.
Once again I apologize for misinterpreting your post.
Bro Curtis, why exactly do you believe I have serious issues with balance and understandling of cultural and moral issues from a Biblical standpoint? I have always been consistent in my disdain of all politcal hackjobs, excuse me pundits, left or right. To applaud JD for his attack on my moral character certainly changes my opinion of you.
Put me in my place? You're kidding, right? I pointed out exactly why I said what I did. My apology was for offending him, even though I clearly did not put words in his mouth.
What exactly is accusing someone of having serious issues with balance and understanding of cultural and moral issues from a Biblical standpoint if not an attack on said person's character?
I don't care what you think about when you post, or how you post, or even what you post. I was just wondering why exactly you agreed with his assessment of my character? Nothing else. In other words, asking you to point out my areas of obscure moral and cultural opinion. Forgive me for believing you were capable of holding an intelligent debate with someone. Whatever was I thinking?
Did you notice my post came before your apology ? I don't like it when folks talk for other folks. And putting words in folk's mouths is about the lowest thing folks do around here. Your apology not withstanding.
Fair enough. I don't like it when people put words in other's mouths either. I seriously did not intend to put words in his mouth, that is how I took his post from the start, and why I felt the need to point it out to him in my apology.
Anyway, I'm willing to let bygones be bygones if you are.....
This world is way too small, and life is way too short for grudges. That's what I believe, anyhoo. I apologize as well, for the glee in the way I responded.
That being said, Ann & Al are two sides of the same coin. Both offer biased commentary, marketed to a certain block, and both use hyperbole to make their points, and both probably lose the same amount of listeners, on a daily basis.
You misread what I said in my post!
I DID NOT question your moral character!
I criticized your BALANCE (for being able to stomach Franken but not Coulter) and your UNDERSTANDING or moral and cultural issues.
You are right -- I don't know you, therefore, I DID NOT attack you morally.
You know what exactly of my balance and understanding of moral and cultural issues? NOTHING! Please enlighten me on the difference between questioning and criticizing moral character, btw. Seem to be the same to me, and they both attack my moral character in some way. Sheesh!
