Anne Graham Lotz to Address Southern Baptist Evangelists’ Sunday Worship
PHOENIX (BP)—Anne Graham Lotz will be the first of three speakers during the Sunday morning worship sponsored by the Conference of Southern Baptist Evangelists prior to this year’s Southern Baptist Convention annual meeting.…
Jim McNiel, a Southern Baptist evangelist of 35 years from St. Louis, described Lotz, daughter of Evangelist Billy Graham, as “a renowned Bible teacher” and author of several noted books.

She's not preaching. She's a guest speaker. There's a difference.
She, in my opinion, is a quite a gifted speaker. I'm sure that's why she was invited by those evangelists.

2. She is speaking.

You know, when the boys and girls in my 5th grade class use the word, "duh", to each other, they get into trouble.
I'll take a pass on the rest of this conversation.

And Scarlett, when my children show that kind of condescending attitude, they get a time out!!
Major B was making a very strong point with his "duh".
Someone is speaking in the Worship service is, to anyone not predispositioned to accept women preachers, PREACHING. Duh.
Don't think he was dissing you, friend, just emphasizing the obvious.
Come on back and keep involved!! -
Scarlett, did not mean to be offensive, just pointing out the obvious.
I teach in an inner-city high school. "Duh" is mild. -
Theres a difference between speaking and preaching.
But I've noticed it depends on who oyu apply it too, if it's a woman it's automatically preaching, if it's a man he gets to choose, speaking or preaching. -
("Anne Graham Lotz to Address ..."). Hopefully she's just speaking. Once in a while women from our congregation speak to us about heading a mission project, upcoming event, etc. Not to confuse that with preaching, of course.

For me, a preaching event is a situation where a speaker addresses a group to proclaim the message of God from the text of the written word and the impulse of the Spirit to make specific application of God's truth to the listeners.
If Ms. Lotz does not reference the message of God from the scripture and avoids presenting words inspired by the Spirit and makes no application of God's truth to the audience, she is merely "speaking" or "addressing" the audience. But once she starts dealing with biblical things, she is preaching.
I very strongly suspect that Ms. Lotz will be preaching, but the SBC evangelists will avoid thinking of it in those terms so as not to disturb their theological biases.
(In the spirit of disclosure, I have no theological issues with women preaching or serving as pastors.) -
She'll probably be preaching! She's smart and knows Scripture. I can't imagine her just "speaking".

Speaking about biblical things(as in teaching men)is not biblical. How do you distinguish teaching from preaching? IMO when a women usurps authority is when she tries to teach men or her husband. It doesn't matter if it is preaching or what some call speaking....
Speaking to make an announcement is speaking not teaching. -
I'll never forget Ken Hemphill, during a discussion of various distortions of 1 Corinthians, when Anne came up.
The gist of it was, "Guys...she can flat preach!"
The evangelists will be blessed. -
And before anyone goes off on "the Bible says", it's been a matter of hot debate whether or not the Bibllical interpretation forbids women from speaking in churches today. Rather than go down that road and resolve nothing, I will stick to what the SBC says about the matter. -

Children are under the authority of their parents...this was God's design for the family...it has nothing to do with women's roles in churches. Women should and can teach women(preferably younger women),children and youth. The men should teach couples, men, etc. The elders are to be men(which are the leaders of a local church). Older women should teach the younger women....I have been asked many times to teach women and I feel the older women with more wisdom should be teaching the younger women. God has standards set forth in His Word for how the church is to be.

The fact that she is Rev. Graham's daughter makes no difference. If she is delivering a sermon as would a pastor then I would call the SBC leaders who are in charge of this event on the carpet and say they are incorrect in so doing. If she is giving any other kind of address I have no problem. Paul's admonition wasn't culturally structured. He quoted the OT as his authority in the matter of women as the head pastor.
Furthermore, it's not like the Rev. Graham is the be all end all of pastors and any of his kids are worthy of an invitation to do anything special just because of who their father is. I think Billy Graham has said some wonderful things in his career and has also said some questionable things and attended questionable events with questionable characters. If you are a fan of his then congratulations, but he is one of thousands who have been called to preach the Word. -

The word PREACHER and her affiliation with KAY ARTHUR and JILL BRISCOE turn MY stomach!

Could anyone deny that people come to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ by the preaching/teaching/speaking of a woman?
Anne Graham Lotz will be great for the evangelist meeting...wheter she preaches, teaches, or speaks...I trust her to know where God leads her and what He leads her to say.
