Because of my age (66 yrs young) my middle daughter succeeded in persuading me to try hi-dose vitamin C therapy, so, my wife and I have now incorporated >2000 mg Sodium Ascorbate (the reviews convinced me to try it) into our daily routine. It's only been a couple of days but 'I think' I feel better, maybe some let up in the allergies that hit us this time of year, too early to tell for sure.
OTOH, my youngest daughter, who is a very serious well informed ICU RN, insists that our bodies expel all this extra vitamin C in the urine.

I've also slowly resumed the practice of the Tai Chi Solo Form which I had neglected due to serious foot injuries over the years. This definitely makes me feel better, not sure about the vitamin C therapy. -
There's a lot more concerning diet but these supplements have time and again picked me up.

The Turmeric is probably my favorite and has many benefits such as anti-inflammatory and antioxidant, joint and heart health and memory/focus but is kind of costly.
D3 is an essential antioxidant vitamin and often in low supply.
Zinc and Magnesium are important minerals that tests show the majority of men over 50 are deficient in, yet are very beneficial for men over 50. -
Often overlooked is that up to 70% of your immune system cells live in your gastrointestinal tract so good bacteria for gut health are essential. Therefore, probiotics which come from food groups is important. Yogurt, cheese and olives are good sources.
I normally have a fruit smoothie at least once a week with yogurt, blueberries, strawberries, banana and orange juice. I pretty much always have a jar of olives in the frig and actually I eat too much cheese, but at least I have the good from the cheese, so an excuse.
Processed foods and many fast foods cause a poor balance of gut bacteria which weakens our immune system. Natural foods such as fruit and vegetables strengthen it. -
I 'retrograde' the starch in potatoes, rice, and pasta simply by cooking, cooling, and reheating. Also use green bananas and raw potato starch in smoothies, when I'm in smoothie mode. -

A fever boosts your immune system. I try to avoid fever reducing drugs and believe often times it gives the virus a second wind while it slows down one of your best defenses.

If sick eating some protein is especially important as that is the building blocks of our bodies.

I usually gulp down a massive amount of supplements every morning. I hope that my immune sydtem is getting a boost from all of that. Sometimes I grind up flax seed and other times , chia seed, mixed with cold water, turmeric powder and ground up peppercorns, then gulped down quickly. Also, I take a Centrum Silver, 2000mg of vitamin C, "Garlique" pill, occuvite, D-3, fish oil, "Urino Zinc," folic acid, then wash it all down with a shot of "Metamucil." If there is any room left in my belly, I may also disolve a tablespoon of beet powder in a cup of water and gulp it down also.
When I told my cardiologist about all of that, he said "You are just wasting your money!" He is insistent that I take the statins that he prescribed, but I get tired, weak legs from the statins and haven't been faithful to take them. -
